Goddard vs Chaplin and Jacobs?
We have a major hole and that is at full back.
We can survive without one of the better half backs in the league
We also need young talent.
Thoughts?
Not a trade however using the funds to secure two players potentially of need
Probably clutching at straws

Re: Goddard vs Chaplin and Jacobs?
It depends
We get compensation if Goddard leaves and we do' not participate in free agency. So if we get pick 13 for Goddard as comensation it may be fair but we will not get it it if we choose to participate.
So yes I'd like both Jacobs and Chaplin but would have to trade first rounder for both. So if we lose Goddard and not use compensation then it is pick 12 and 13....
If we decide to pick a free agent ourselves and lose Goddard it is equivalent to losing Goddard plus pick 13 for Jacobs and Chaplin ... Plus would have to trade pick 12 to get them both so it's lose Goddard plus first rounder and no compensation for participating .
I'd rather lose Goddard and then have 2 first rounders

Chaplin will end up at Richmond. They have a pick before us and are up for a trade.

Re: Goddard vs Chaplin and Jacobs?
Surely Chaplin is not worth pick 10 in a very strong draft? Can't see Richmond doing that at all. Maybe a player and a 2nd round pick?samuraisaint wrote:Chaplin will end up at Richmond. They have a pick before us and are up for a trade.

Thought Chaplin was a free agent, therefore it does not matter what pick we or Richmond have.

Re: Goddard vs Chaplin and Jacobs?
My point was more along the lines of if Goddard goes is Chaplin, Jacobs and extra cash sweet?
My thoughts are yes.
We get a capable full back, a young player who has two years into him and doesnt look the worst thing ever, plus cash.

Re: Goddard vs Chaplin and Jacobs?
So in theory we could get Chaplin via free agency, meaning we MAY be able to secure Jacobs with the second round pick we would probably get for BJ. IMO way too risky and would prefer to just not push our luck with FA. I really cant see us getting Jacobs as we have nothing to trade with and the BJ compo is way too much for just Jacobs. The Redeemer wrote:My point was more along the lines of if Goddard goes is Chaplin, Jacobs and extra cash sweet?

If clubs are going to get our boys then why not do the same with blokes that want to come home to Victoria?

Re: Goddard vs Chaplin and Jacobs?
No to Chaplin. He's an average player & doesn't play on the big forwards (Alipate Carlisle & Trengove do).
I don't know Jacobs well enough but there are better credentialed kids in this draft.
Let's just take our medicine & lose Goddard, see if the compo pick is enough to get Caddy otherwise take the two best kids at 12 & 13. We can get the big defender through a trade or later pick.

Re: Goddard vs Chaplin and Jacobs?
might be crazy to get chaplin because it means we dont get the compo (pick 13) for bj.
whats better - chaplin or pick 13?
im thinking we keep 13 and try for mitch brown or kyle hartigan with a later pick.

Great deal for us at this point would be:Con Gorozidis wrote:Oh well. Ill be happy with 2 first round young guns + Mitch Brown.
IN:
Brown
Hickey
Caddy or Jacobs or Stevens
OUT:
Cripps
Goddard compo pick
...bearing in mind that I know nothing about any of the players who are coming in! What's the chance of this happening, do ya reckon?
