not worth it , If he accepts he may be the highest paid player over there !
Yet going on this years form , i reckon there'd be at least 10 freo players who had better years !

Re: $850,000-a-year deal for Goddard
Please take it Brendan.
All our best wishes.
Hope you get to collect the 2013 Norm Smith Medal to make up for the one you could have arguably shared with Lenny in 2010..., then...
... sit back and enjoy watching your former team mates step up to receive their medallions.
And remember Brendan, no matter what you decide to do, do not take any of Ro$$y's investment tips...
PS: Once again, no matter what, thank you for everything, and please always feel that you are always very welcome to call into the club.
PPS: With all that in mind, it's still not too late to heed Barry Breen's advice, turn your back on the extra money (less ~45% tax ) and finish your career as a one club, and champion of that club, player. Brendan, as you would know, there are some things that one can't put a monetary value on... I'm sure you'll choose wisely, and sincerely best of luck whichever that choice may be.
All our best wishes.

Re: $850,000-a-year deal for Goddard
This is where the AFL free agency compensation needs to change - in reality free agency compensation should be based around how much another club is willing to pay not based around how many B&F's he has won or what he is on at his original club
If a club is willing to pay $850,000 a year - ie:top 5 paid players in the league - then surely that should equate to 2 first round draft picks or a first and a second or third round draft pick - unfortunately we will only get one mid first round draft which seems pathetic compensation considering what another club is willing to pay to get him

Re: $850,000-a-year deal for Goddard
No doubt if he goes we will get the mid 1st round draft under the current AFL free agency rules only for the AFL to change the system next year citing that that their previous system was flawed and that compensation will now reflect how much the player is now currently receiving with his new club rather that what he was originally receiving at his old club.
Saints get screwed again
Seriously to receive one mid first round draft pick for a prime player who is deemed worthy of a $850,000 a year contract is pathetic considering that the mid 1st round draft will most likely be used on a 18 year old untried player that might or might not make it - keeping in mind that some teams have a larger salary cap compared to other teams ie: can offer better deals to free agents - then surely the compensation should fairly mirror any such exorbitant offers.
Losing a player because another club has offered him $850,000 a year and then only receiving one mid first round draft pick unfortunately doesn't cut it for me

Re: $850,000-a-year deal for Goddard
Why would any club offer $850K ?
If Saints are only offer 475 and won't budge, 600 would get it done.
I don't think this article is 'on the money'

Re: $850,000-a-year deal for Goddard
Looks like Fremantle are splashing cash for a premiership.
Sounds familiar with Lyon, but if they don't succeed then it could ruin the club. So much for free trade.
FA is going to lead to inflation. Some in the AFL are completely clueless. There should be a cap at what you can throw a player from an opposing club.
I hope they fail and then we'll see some of their players leaving for better money elsewhere. What goes around comes around.

I'm sure there's smoke and mirrors and ducks and drakes flying all over the place at the moment.... not sure I believe our offer was $640k x 3 either.SainterK wrote:Why would any club offer $850K ?

Doesn't mean there's not a very tempting offer from freo, though.

The salary cap is $8.78m (for everyone except the two new teams).
To pay nearly 10% of it to one player is en exercise in stupity.
looks like Ro$$y is up to his old tricks of coaching fo today with a long term plan of leaving a mess for someone else to clean up.....

Re: $850,000-a-year deal for Goddard
Must be from the Sharrod Wellingham School of Economics.....
If Wellingham is asking for $550k a year, then Goddard probably is worth $850k.
The irony of Ross Lyon, a man who reportedly lost small fortune in bad investments, entertaining the idea of these crazy deals, you couldnt write that stuff.......

No, it won't, because there is also a salary cap.magnifisaint wrote:Looks like Fremantle are splashing cash for a premiership.

The bloke's initials are B.S. Probably a reason for that.
With respect Sainter K, you're speculating on which story to believe based on your own prejudices of the narrative you are choosing to take on board.

Re: $850,000-a-year deal for Goddard
The article is dated 21st of September. Why are we even discussing it? This story came out ages ago.
If we're offering him 475k a year - I think that's about what he's worth. Good player, in our best 1/2 doz, but won't break the bank. It's time the club made a stand. Only the truly elite and possibly the captain deserve over 500k a year imo

Re: $850,000-a-year deal for Goddard
Yes let's believe random posters on an internet forum for inside information just to suit our arguements. Fact is we're not going to overpay Brendon Goddard - if another club is silly enough to do so - then here's the door. See ya.
