Steven Salopek
He is reportedly trying his han at free agency. From memory was a Saints supporter and we were very keen on him until the Blues got kicked out of the draft and we inherited pick 1 to use on Goddard.
Has not really set the world on fire at port but has had injury interruptions. I think his best is still very good.

He is a NO from me....
Too old, and good enough to push one of the young'uns out....
Jarad Rivers though?

Re: Steven Salopek
No not yet. Wait until he has more injuries and even worse form. He isnt what we need. he is slow and get a lot of injuries. And dont ever understand he followed us stuff. Luckily that isnt how sides are picked or we wouldnt have Lenny or Rooy but we would have Hurley.

But no Dal, Joey or Chips or Jack or Armo. Sippo would play though.

Re: Steven Salopek
Hasn't played a lot lately. He's 27 and I'd rather trade to get him than go free agency. What's his market value, though? Pretty hard to calculate.
Re: Steven Salopek
Not getting a game at Port when you are supposed to be an experienced player isn't a great sign.

Re: Steven Salopek
We could probably snap him up with pick 137 in the draft rather than potentially effect our FA compo...
27 year old, injury prone, cant get a game at the biggest basket case in the AFL... playing in the SANFL twos.
I'm thinking, let's not. Does anyone really care who he supported as a kid?

"So dire was the situation through the season that the classy onballer was dropped to the Glenelg reserves, with no guarantee of a senior recall by his SANFL club. This prompted him to make a dramatic shift to the Port Adelaide Magpies, and his form improved...."

Re: Steven Salopek
Wouldnt mind him training with us and going through all the tests. Can play and he is a true mid fielder. Can be rookied Im pretty sure so wouldnt be to concerned. From what I read Port supporters where pissed off with his treatment many of them saying his numbers where good in the SANFL only to be dropped.

Re: Steven Salopek
He wouldn't be first player to turn his career around with a second chance. How many players currently on AFL lists were disgarded, or traded cheaply and now playing decent footy. Too many to mention here
Always had a lot of time for Salopek, don't know if he's finished though.....

Two years ago, maybe. Not now. Already have plenty like him, or better. Having read the article, he appears to have a brilliant career in PR ahead of him. More spin than a Warnie leg break.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: Steven Salopek
A few years ago I would've jumped at the chance to get him, but I think injuries have put an end to his career. Wasn't quick to start with and he's slowed down a bit, can't stay on the park and couldn't get a game with a complete rabble. I definitely wouldn't want him taking midfield time away from Ross or Ledger.
If we go after any midfielders they should be smart, skillful players clearly in our best 22. We need depth in the ruck, not the midfield.

Re: Steven Salopek
I have brought up Salopek a few times. The mail on him is this
He was a massive saints fan till he got picked up by port.
Dean Laidley loves him and spoke to him in 2011 saying he wated Sal at wherever he was coaching next.
Saints spoke to him before the 2012 season but couldn't reach an agreement (wanted too much money)
Saints have spoken to him about three weeks ago and he was told if BJ goes he will be a saint in 2013
Salopeks preferd team is Saints, the roos and dogs have also contacted him but wants to be a saint.

Re: Steven Salopek
To be honest I watched him in a Game recently for port magpies and e was. Cut above the rest. One touch, class around the footy and a very good kick.
Would be a great 5th 6th midfielder for us

Hope that clears things up.
Is GWS still talking to BJ?
Re: Steven Salopek
You can believe me or not that's fine
The two players I know family are Salopek and BJ, know much more about Sal though.
Again doesn't matter if you believe me, IMO I still think he will be an asset for us.

Re: Steven Salopek
If he comes to the saints I will welcome him with open arms but honestly I wouldn't be fussed if another club took him

Re: Steven Salopek
Not that keen on him, but he'd provide more than Wilkes (considering we are talking about mediocre offcuts from other clubs) IMO albeit in different positions.

Re: Steven Salopek
None of us do our recruiting or any other clubs Id say. I wouldnt havee taken Leigh Brown as he was a spud probably wouldn't have taken Rys Shaw both where rated as spuds . Salopek can play why he isn't playing well at the highest level is the question.bobmurray wrote:The more spuds we offload, the more people want to replace them with spuds...
