4 votes BJ?
Is 4 brownlow votes worth 650+ a year for 4 years?
I say no. It just highlights BJs worth IMO.
I'm leaning towards a hopeful trade the longer this drags on with BJ. Sorry BJ lovers but the 4 votes (1 more the Wilkes) doesn't deserve to be he highest paid at our club. THE END

Dempster with 2 votes making the All Australian team. Not to say he doesn't deserve the spot, it's just ammunition for the naysayer's.

Re: 4 votes BJ?
In 2010 he was a red hot fave and only polled 14 votes, way too fiery around the umps.
Darren Glass is the AA captain this year and didn't even poll a vote.

But if you don't play in the midfield or at least rotate through it these days you don't get a lot of votes.NOTTHATAWKWARD wrote:Dempster with 2 votes making the All Australian team. Not to say he doesn't deserve the spot, it's just ammunition for the naysayer's.
Dempster was worthy of his selection in the AA, played on some of the big forwards and only had 20 goals kicked on him.

Re: 4 votes BJ?
Its just become a mid-fielders award , if your not around the umps getting 30+ posi's a game , its tough to be noticed .
Ablett getting 24 votes was a joke , I know he's a fantastic player but when your team only wins 3 games and most of your losses are by more than 10 goals , Its clear that the umpires love him . Maybe its his nude nut as allot of the umpires are also chrome domes .

Uhh, dont agree one bit. Ablett is one of the best ever. He deserved more IMO. Isint it about the best player on the field? Not about best player in the winning team?mr six o'clock wrote:Its just become a mid-fielders award , if your not around the umps getting 30+ posi's a game , its tough to be noticed .

In 2009 and 10 , he was becoming one of the best players in the game . I thought after his 2010 grand finals that going forward , he would be easily in the leagues top 10 players . unfortunately this didn't happen . At this stage of his career , i don't think he's in the top 50 !
Is he capable of getting back to that 2010 form ? only time will tell .

FFS, many great players (past and present) haven't polled well or even won a Brownnose Medal.
How Plugger won it in 1987 will always remain a mystery.

How many brownlow votes did Leigh Mathews get in his carreer ? What about Wayne Carey ? What about SOS ? Or Watson Snr ? What about saints star players like Stewie Loewe or Fraser Gehrig or burkie or Maxy or Hammil ?? Stupid original post

Goddard is midfielder (trying to be anyway) poor effort in brownlow voting for a midfielders award IMO. My main point is he is a good player but not great.
Maybe it's the environment, new role, the challenge of playing in different positions but since the 2010 drawn grand final in which he took the game apart he hasn't been close to recapturing that form again.

Re: 4 votes BJ?
While I agree with the "best player on the ground" point I tend to lean towards the thinking of surely if a side won by over 90 points they would have had a couple of players go well enough to be BOG. Also how good could a player really have been in a side that got done by over 90 points.clarky449 wrote:Uhh, dont agree one bit. Ablett is one of the best ever. He deserved more IMO. No disrespect to Ablett because he is one of the best ever to lace them up but the fact that he got as many votes as he did in a side that won 3 games if proof to me that umpires lean towards certain players more than others

Lockett, Dipper, Williams. Excuses. He just may not be in the best 3 for those umpires. And I doubt he was favourite in 2010. He certainly wasnt red hot favourite.

So must the players and some other media awards. It isnt just the umpires. Anyway i thought Ablett was clearly best in the first game against us. Didnt see many other games so not going to comment. i take it those knocking how many votes he got saw most of his games.

The Blake would be happy that pay is not proportional to Brownlow votes.

Re: 4 votes BJ?
Matthews got 202 in his career, the third most of any player ever, just behind Harvs. (Though, like Gary Dempsey, he played in 76 and 77 when the voting system was different and the winner ended up with 50 or 60.)st_Trav_ofWA wrote:How many brownlow votes did Leigh Mathews get in his carreer ? Carey got 127, Loewe 126, leaving them just outside the top 40 of all time.
The other you mention definitely got fewer votes than they're worth. Tim Watson's the most comparable with BJ - he got 86 for his career, leaving him 114th on the all-time list.

if we are judging a player by the amount of Brownlow votes he gets we may as well judge him by supercoach scores

Re: 4 votes BJ?
In 1976 and 1977 there were two field umpires and both cast brownlow votes. In other words in each game there were two lots of 1.2.3. votes given. SO at the Brownlow, players were receiving double the votes that should have been available. The AFL should have halfed the votes given out those years. When anyone like Matthews is shown with a large amount of votes for those years it is a joke, and it should have been straightened out years ago..
