This guy (Rossy) can't coach
Starting this thread as I am pretty much predicting this crows vs Freo game. Freo can't score and lose due to an inability to kick a winning score. Another example of how Ross gamplan keeps his good record intact but will never be good enough to dominate finals.
Just don't score heavily enough when the team is dominant in periods of games due to the defensive mindset of the midfield.

Man - That phone sure copped a beating when the 50 metre got awarded near the end.
Ross - on behalf of most of us here at Saintsational - go and stick it right up your clacker and suck it up. You have the morals of a goat. You and Zac deserve each other as you are both mercenaries. Sleep well tonight - cos sadly i know you will cos it is all about the pharkin money money money...

Re: This guy (Rossy) can't coach
I dunno if he can't coach, his plan wins games H&A and finals, but still close games are easier to lose on a bounce of the ball (don't we know it) so it's riskier.
Personally though, I'm happy to see Ross not get past the 2nd week of finals and even happier to see the grumpy old c**k break his phone then snatch the headset off the bloke next to him then throw it away. Temper temper! Schadenfraude isn't a great look, but I'll wear it just this once.
Let's hope that Watters can give the team back a little bit of that mongrel that it lacked this year and I'm hoping that he does well enough for us to not care how successful our former coach is in the future.

Mind you that's one down for Freo and Ross 4 to go before he starts eyeing the Demons off when their players are ready to challenge

Re: This guy (Rossy) can't coach
2 x six day breaks and travel to Melb/back etc played a big part in this result
started to run out of legs just before 1/2 time
Ross can certainly coach.................
given home (earnt) finals Freo will improve their record

Re: This guy (Rossy) can't coach
Great tactician and footy brain but for some reason he cannot make significant structural changes on game day when things don't go as planned.
He should consider recruiting an assistant coach who he trusts greatly to have a 50% say on gameday.
He never will though - control freak.

Re: This guy (Rossy) can't coach
More of a coach that prepares his players for the game, than a move maker, we already established that Zac pushing forward v Carlton in 2009 was about the only match day move he's made

Re: This guy (Rossy) can't coach
Ross can certainly coach !
But once again in finals the shots at goal dry up . they were all over the crows yet at the end of the game the crows had 5 more scoring shots , so the margin could have been bigger if the crows were more accurate . Just like last week , the cats were average yet had the same amount of scoring shots !

Re: This guy (Rossy) can't coach
We've just seen RL at his stubborn best the same shite which cost us games.
He refused to make the move with Silvagni on Walker, but then again he wouldn't have wanted to expose Dawson especially one on one with Walker!!!!
Also question the inclusion of Zac Clarke, WTF, it's a questin we'll never know the answer to because RL never justifies his mistakes to anyone!!!!!

I couldnt be bothered looking but my bet is you called him a great coach when he was at our club and I also would think you wouldnt have that criteria after making 2 GF's in a row. I suppose he has left now so he is worse than he was.

Re: This guy (Rossy) can't coach
He has done what he does. He has got a good result off the back of getting a heap of soldiers to support his few elite players, and set the game plan up to maximise the output of the elite.
The problem he now has is the sun setting on his elite. McPharlin's absence tonight was probably the difference. He had no option for Walker. But, McPharlin is awfully close to the end and Pavlich can't maintain this year's output for much longer. Those are the 2 players he has who can be categorised as AFL elite. The other thing that happened for Lyon this year was his mid field coach came up with a way to get advantage out of Sandiland's ruck dominance, but only late in the year. And, how many years has Sandlilands got left (and consider the fact that the Porpoise marked OVER Sandliands to get a shot at goal inside 40 tonight)?
So, Lyon is now faced with what he faced with us, only his few guns are actually older than our guns when he left us. So, what's next Rossie? If anyone doubts that, ask yourself how Freo's year would have been without Pavlich. Then consider he was drafted in the 90's (same year as Aaron Fiora if the memory serves).
Lyon got a good result this year. That means nothing for what's next. Freo have a truck load of $'s from mobs like Woodside, but it means jack shyte in a comp that has a draft and salary cap. Lyon's challenge is to develop players from young, and I don't think he's much good at that.
He won't see out his contract. Then he'll have to find another moneyed club to front end his contract to pay off his "investment" losses so the family doesn't have to live with the grandparents. Don't forget his claim in his first WA newspaper interview that his financial troubles were all caused by a mining company that went broke during the GFC. The only way that was ever true was if he'd leveraged the entire family fortune on a company that was merely speculative. No mining company that was actually mining went broke because of the GFC. He's a teller of porkies or a financial f***wit.
I look forward to his demise. He treated us like crap and was interested only in who could dig him out the financial hole he had dug for himself. Egomaniacal tosser driven by a chipped shoulder.
