Kudos Wilkes
For getting stuck into Walker and trying to help Milney out. We really needed someone to give Milne a bit of support and get into that knob Walker and Wilkes took it upon himself. It did make me think of the old days when we would have had Hamill, Gehrig, Bakes, Goose and Stephen Powell all giving it back to the antagonist in spades, but we really don't have much mongrel or size in the team at the moment. Rhys and McEvoy are the big blokes but they're beanpoles and we don't have any really solid guys with a bit of mongrel. I remember a few years ago the word 'enforcer' was quite common. It'd be good if we had a bit more of that old Hamill-esque mentality.
So good on Wilkes; he saw Walker relentlessly punching and elbowing Milney behind play so Wilkes got in between them and gave Milney a breather. He's not the most gifted player and I don't think he's any more than depth going forward, but he gives his all and sticks up for his team mates.

Re: Kudos Wilkes
agree. top stuff wilkesy. not the most gifted player. but strong hands solid and reliable and seems like a great bloke and team man. well deserves his new contract. he really helps us out.
Re: Kudos Wilkes
Good on him. He's a trier on small money, he's been reasonable.

Has been excellent value & a lot of people should be ashamed for the vitriol they dished out to him without even giving him a chance.

Re: Kudos Wilkes
I think not only has he been reasonable but he's got the potential to be a 40+ full forward next year. A major step up on Kosi's impact
Loved his work supporting Milney - he did the same when he was in the forward line with Roo as well.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Good clubman , sticks up for his team and has done what ever the coaches have asked of him !
The silly thing is if the stupid friggen umpires had paid a couple of frees early then all the nastiness in the game probably wouldn't have happened !

Couldn't agree more - including comments that Wilkes should.....'Go back to Perth quietly". Shivers the guy had only been here 10 minutes

Good to see Trey Parker's character from Baseketball (Beau Wilkes) giving it back to the Carlton scum with some Steve Perry-style psyche outs

Re: Kudos Wilkes
At the game the umpiring was farcical- I will give them the benefit of strong sunshine, but the Carlton runner blocked Saad running for the ball after already giving away 50 and the umpires did nothing. It looked as if he stopped to shepherd? Still not as bad as the genius at the Saints who put our runners in white jackets with big black numbers that looked just like our away shirts- one actually got a pass directed their way as they went to run off. Seriously stupid design, at least the carlton ones looked like a giant mandarine.mr six o'clock wrote:Good clubman , sticks up for his team and has done what ever the coaches have asked of him !

Good to see him sticking up for Yapper. Doesn't change the fact that he's only a good VFL/WAFL player.MCG-Unit wrote:savatage wrote:Has been excellent value & a lot of people should be ashamed for the vitriol they dished out to him without even giving him a chance.

Re: Kudos Wilkes
Well done Beau on being the highest vote getter for Sandringham in the JJ Liston
also getting votes were Shenton- ( vs Pies) Curren (rd 23) Clarke and Polo
they only showed votes from rd 12 onward so not sure who else may have gotten votes earlier.
