Saints AA chances
With one week to go I dont think much will change regarding who could be an AA this year.
The way I see it is that only Milney and dempster are chances this year. Lenny will win our B&F but has about 8 mids ahead of him so I dont think he can get there. Milne is against Rioli and Jetta. I think he has now passed Jetta so Rioli is his only danger. Dempster is aginst probably a few more like Enright who seems to make it every year and it will also depend if they play him a small back or a tall back. Probably no hope if he is regarded as a tall back.
Thoughts?

Milne is a shoe-in.
Dempster may although to me he sums up a decent player standing out in an average side at the moment.

Would have thought Roo was a chance if he'd been able to finish the season off…
Milne close, Dempster probably more highly regarded by Saints fans than most others.

It is seemingly a bit of a myth that is being spread but Saints supporters after one or two commentators spoke of his increased output (both quality and quantity).
Or maybe I am completely incorrect and he has become elite?

Dempster seemingly has a portion of the media behind him.
Come to think if it, the AA backline this season (if looked say in 2009 ahead of time) would be laughable...

All three should be in. Jetta as a winger, Rioli as a HFF and Milne as an FP. I'm sure the selectors will their usual thing and squeeze out deserving outside players in favour of inside grunts.plugger66 wrote:Milne is against Rioli and Jetta.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

Well in their defence the top 10 in most awards are mids so they have to fit them in somewhere. I think Lenny has been picked on the wing twice as a AA and i doubt he has ever played there.

Top 3 intercept marks in AFL
19th contested marks in AFL (is 7th ranked defender)
31st in One Percenters in AFL
21st rebound 50's in AFL
15th ranked defender in AFL DreamTeam and 9th ranked defender in Supercoach
If you compare his season to Sam Fisher last year its almost identical apart from 3 less disposals a game - http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_p ... fopt2=2011

The whole side should be in AA (alcoholics anonymous), with the exception of Ahmed Saad

Re: Saints AA chances
Milney's got to be a certainty, currently sitting equal fourth in the Coleman race, not another small forward in sight. Hell, he might have won the Coleman if he'd been paid all the free kicks he was denied over the year!
Re: Saints AA chances
Love Seany, think he is a decent chance to be AA.
However imagine how Fish would have gone this year with a bit more freedom, had he not been required to play on big forwards so often.

Think you're pretty spot-on Plugger, Milney probably the best bet, but my current tip would be nil. If Milney can finish top 3 in the Coleman that may change.

Re: Saints AA chances
just watching the replay of saturday, tom harley was pushing dempster for aa and brett kirk also talked him up. it doesn't mean much in the scheme of things except that he is on some radars - i tend to think he'll be in the squad but miss out.The Redeemer wrote:Dempster seemingly has a portion of the media behind him.
Re: Saints AA chances
Milne dempster Rooey should get in no problems. Dempster is as good as fisher these days play almost identical style.

Milne will make it. Dempster will probably just miss out. Roo and Hayes chances for the 40 man squad.

Re: Saints AA chances
Dempster or Milney the only people in the reckoning.
Dempster has has had an awesome year SINCE he got a severe touch up from mr buddy franklin and the coach realised what most of us all knew - Dempster has limitations but if played as a BP on small fwds he is extremely effective. Just dont get any wacky ideas that he can play as a tall defender, fwd OR midfielder. But as a BP who plays on smalls and does some awesome intercept cut-off marks as 3rd man-up - he is really great at that particular role. could sneak in to an AA BP maybe.
Milney - well small fwd 55+ goals. numbers tell you he should probably get in.

Incredible turn around from Milne considering after the first few rounds this year many had written him off and certain this was his last season..
Deserves enormous credit, genuine superstar.

Re: Saints AA chances
Took the words right out of my mouth. Amazing shift in mindset on here. And not just the first few rounds either. Right up until midway through the year there were posters bemoaning Milney's place in the team, more specifically that he was taking away a spot that one of the youngsters could have otherwise occupied. Often this would occur after a poor team performance, when there were several other passengers, and despite the fact he plays in what is often described as the toughest position on the ground!Sobraz wrote:Incredible turn around from Milne considering after the first few rounds this year many had written him off and certain this was his last season..

I truly believe he has a couple more seasons in him. His game is based upon footy smarts, awareness and determination. So long as his leg speed doesn't erode too heavily, he may well be around for up to three more seasons (and I bet he'd be willing!).
For the AA, I think Milne and Dempster will get the nod.
