Re: Goddard and saints going to Free agency to decide his va
When was he given this offer?
Saints are the only ones saying that he has one, is it just now that they have realised the urgency?
I agree Grumpy that the club is bigger than the individual, but I also hope that individuals at the club are aware of this as well.
Play hard ball by all means, but let's not offend players for the sake of it.

Puts a bit more pressure on BJ now... that Watters has come out and said the club has put an offer in front of him....
Can hardly blame BJ for wanting to negotiate that upwards... on the other hand if he grabs more then perhaps it means one of his mates needs to be retired off early by the club, or the club is not able to hold on to one of its promising youngsters... a lot for BJ to think about...

I can't remember.
Someone should bump that thread with all the contracts and where they are at....
Now we can make a few adjustments and make assumptions that certain players may be done.

Re: Goddard and saints going to Free agency to decide his va
If BJ signs elsewhere, take the comp pick and move on. Save the cap space for 2013 FAs (that way we get picks plus players, not either/or). If we play hardball and match somebody's offer, he could just not sign and enter the PSD and we lose another AA player for nothing. Better to just let him go if he wants to.
He's worth whatever he gets paid. You can arbitrarily decide his ceiling is $600K. It doesn't make it true. Somebody will see him as a big improvement on what they've got and throw at least that much at him. GWS may have the capacity to offer him 7 figures. If he goes, that's still the best case scenario.
Eventually it comes down to the same thing it has for everyone else - how much of a pay cut is he willing to take to stay here. I can't imagine he'll leave for peanuts. It's going to have to be a truck of money, especially if he's moving interstate. My guess is he ends up back here as the second highest paid player on our list. Either way there's going to be alot of pressure on him to have a much bigger year next year.

lenny and joey set to sign before the years out possibly the season
offer him 600 for 4 years
Do you really want to give a guy who will probably not top 5 in the B&F for the second year in a row 2.4 million. Seems way over the top and will probably forse us to lose another good player. 2 or 3 years at 500 max. Take it or take a better offer elsewhere.

Well hopefully we dont have anyone that stupid in charge of contracts. 2.4 million for a HBF is way over the top.

What is that based on? His last 2 years or the fact Lenny probably never earnt more 500k a season. I like my second highest paid players at the club to at least finish top 5 in the B&F in the last 2 seasons before they are offerred that type of money.

No idea but if forced to guess between 300 and 400k. Maybe close to the 4.

You're quick to bring up his finishing outside top 5 last two years even though he probably had reasons, yet guess that while he was finishing high in the B&F's and playing out of his skin, he was probably only on 300 or so?plugger66 wrote:SainterK wrote:What would BJ be on now?

Does loyalty/reward work both ways? Or should he have held back in 09-10 because his contract didn't compensate for that kind of performance?
Personally I believe he will be back to his best next year, hoping that fact that he hasn't been shipped off to the surgery pasture already, indicates that he will enjoy a nice injury free preseason.
No I don't know, yes it's my opinion, and OK you can have yours.

He was underpaid in 2009 and 10 but overpaid the last 2 years. he was probably overpaid early in his career as well but they are swings and roundabouts. it depends when you come out of contract. Rooy is overpaid now but not when he did his contact. BJ is up now and his form is certainly no more than 400k form. Probably less. Paying him 500k is rewarding him. Paying him 600k stuffs up the clubs salary cap IMO.
There has not been any talk of BJ being injured this year. All I have seen is clubs not letting him play the role he has had for the last 3 or 4 years.

Make him captain as should have been done at the start of this year.
Rooey says he is okay with it.

How is Leigh Matthews form today...
There is opinion, and there is having a bit of a personal go at a player.
Only part of that interview that was accurate was when he said 'I don't know how BJ is around the club'

I'd like to know the timing of this offer.... If its last 24 hrs then you wonder if the club is jumping at pressure from outside
Seems strange we've not heard of it before..

When Pelchen was asked about it last week on radio he said 'you'll have to ask Dan Richardson about that'
Which I read elsewhere was rumoured to have annoyed BJ and his camp because there was no offer like being made out.

Well Leigh never struck me as captaincy material when he played either, going around and whacking people etc.
It turned out the responsibility was good for him.
