Clever negotiation tool by BJ's management, that's all this "offer" is.

So it is clever by Clokes management as well as Ablett and Scully at the same stages in the last 2 ears.

I cant understand why Siposs is not getting games at the moment. He may not be Brendon Goddard, but he is the nearest thing we have to BJ.

I am now 90% sure that

Cloke/Tippett/BJ are all gonski to $$-land.

And who can blame em. I am just worried next year that the folowing nightmare scenario pans out:

1. BJ leaves because we cant offer him enough $$ under our SC
2. We have Roo still on massive coin and his knee gives out once and for all
3. We have a large immobile witch's hat names Kosi on big coin
4. Gram gets another contract on good $ and goes back in to "cruise" mode.

What would I do if I was Bainsey?

1. Axe Kosi
2. Offer Gram 1 year on a much reduced rate.
3. Offer Roo 2 years on a much reduced rate
4. Offer BJ something reasonable but not over the top (probably cant match GWS but appeal to loyalty).
5. Make Dal captain
6. Perhaps if an attractive trade is available for joey - look at taking it
7. Offer Joey 2 years on a reasonable rate.
8. Go for the best available tall fwd with our first draft pick
9. Look at a mature tall defender in the middle of the draft and a mature back-up ruckman late in the draft.

Lets go through these Con.
1 How can they axe Kosi if he has a contract?
2 Gram may have a rate built in otherwise you are right with that one
3 Rooy has a year to go so that cannot happen unless he agrees and why would he?
4 Totally agree
5 Keep Rooy if he wants it otherwise no idea
6 Not if we lose BJ but yes if we dont and he is happy to go.
7 Depends on 6
8 Not in million years unless he is around about the pick we had anyway. Dont want to pick a player that should be 30 at pick 10 because he is the best available tall forward
9 Not opposed to either of those.

1 How can they axe Kosi if he has a contract? - well i think there is an option for 2013 but i dont know who hold the power on this option- kosi or the club?
2 Gram may have a rate built in otherwise you are right with that one
3 Rooy has a year to go so that cannot happen unless he agrees and why would he? - i thought he was up for renewal so im wrong there (which is probably why we cant afford bj)
4 Totally agree

None of those three ever stated they wanted to stay where they were.

I'm no expert, but I work in this field every day and can see straight through this one.

All seems pretty sensible except for Dal as captain. McEvoy should be made skipper if not Roo.

Disagree. Been one of our most consistent 2 years running and in the leadership group. Time to build around a relative youngster.

back to bj.
people saying its all clever mgt stuff. i dunno about that. the longer it goes the more it looks like hes going.
saint mgt have hands tied behind back with the SC. bj wants to say - i definitely believe him on that - but if we cant offer him at least 70% of what gws offer - he will simply have to go.

ball in his saints court to see how they piece the SC puzzle together (and time is a ticking).

if he goes - he will say - 'well i really wanted to stay - but the club and my mgt coundnt get a satisfactory deal done' or something of that nature.
and it will be most likely be a true statement.

Why can't we offer BJ a back ended 4-5 year deal, given that Roo, Dal, Grammy, Kozi and co will be finished and we will have few high rollers left.
Dangerous yes, but without BJ we definitely have no hope next year IMO.
We think we have poor forward line delivery now, wait and see how we look if he goes....

saints have stated recently and i quote we no longer have the same slary cap issues that we we had in the past and will be looking to be very active come trade time . we will offer bj something fair but not over the top ,thats what got us in the poo in the first place . whether he will accept is entirly up to him . we are all just speculating as to what he has or hasn't been offered time will tell ??????. imo think there will be some pretty significant changes to our list come next season.

I wish the club had got around to this earlier.

He wanted to stay, we should of got it further along before he'd really given deep thought to an alternative.

Can't believe people think he is a downhill skier.

From memory, pretty sure an article recently stated he had said no to a move to Freo regardless of what happens.
K, I don't think the club have not just got around to it...

For mine it's because the club either don't have the money to give him a reasonable offer, or they don't want to spend it all on him...

Seems likely to run on until October for mine...

Thanks...that is another angle.

If they don't have the money for a reasonable offer, you're saying they will have a clearer picture come seasons end when people make known intentions and they do some cutting of the list?

Maybe Pelchen sees BJ as the key bargaining chip & is basing the rebuild around what they can get for him.

This years draft is thought to be strong & deep, so you can significantly rejuvenate your list if you can lock in 5 or so picks inside the top 50.

Similar as far as impacting the scoreboard.

Both are very good users, I'd be upset if lost one or both.

Staying or going? What do you think BJ is doing?

I think that Nick Riewoldt would not have come out in the press and labelled BJ as the next captain if he was unsure if he was staying.

Considering Roo and BJ are seemingly close too...
