Same problem for years. Our forwards have no hope - Geelong easily rebounding.
Compare to Geelong's delivery into their fwd 50 !!!!

Teh ball, when kicking forward. Need to learn to take the tackle rather than butchering the ball to and open opposition play.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Re: WTF IS WRONG WITH OUR KICKING
Kicking lost us the game, intent, pressure and decision making was right up there but execution was woeful. Kicking for goal still a major issue. Missed targets when kicking into a dangerous spot, ie squaring it into the backline hurt us last night. And the inability to attack the ball in the marking contest also hurt. But yeah, same old story unfortunately.
Ray, Cripps, Geary, Wilkes, Jack, even Dal let us down last night and thats only the tip of the iceberg.

Re: WTF IS WRONG WITH OUR KICKING
Noticed one in last quarter where Cripps ran to space in corridor. If the kick had hit him he is heading to goal at the dead run but kick missed, Cripss got a crap bounce and actually did well to dead ball itagainst three Geelong opponents. But just another example of a lost scoring opportunity due to poor disposal, and it was from a free kick so no on the run to excuse it. Marvelled at Geelong's ability to hit up targets with accurate foot passing, what this also does is gives guys confidence to run that extra yard as they have the faith in their team mate to hit them up.
Just wondering, I know we have line coaches but who is the actual skills coach? Do these guys get enough skills practice or is it all structures and set plays?

Where to now - we need to rebuild, so let's get rid of a couple of the poorest kickers, irrespective if their "perceived" value. Time and time again, poor kicking has cost us many games. LET'S BITE THE BULLET !
Your point has been raised a million times on this site over the past while (me included). Firstly, in my view, the prime reason for our situation has been in the Recruiting "over several years." Secondly it appears that "kicking practice" was limited by the conditioning people, for fear of the training toll on soft tissue injuries?? Thirdly, many say that by the time players get to AFL level, their techniques are so in-grained, that not much can be done to make significant improvements, but I'm not convinced on this.Just wondering, I know we have line coaches but who is the actual skills coach? Is it too late for a player at AFL level to better their kicking skills or is it
A skill you bring from junior days.?

Including in front of goal as well. Maybe goal kicking practice might actually help. That's let us down in grand finals as well.Junction Oval wrote:Saintlester said :Your point has been raised a million times on this site over the past while (me included). Re: WTF IS WRONG WITH OUR KICKING
As professionals , they ought to take on the task of improving their kicking during the off-season .
We've got far too many players who do all the hard work , win the ball , beat one or more opponents , then kick the ball straight to the opposition .

I reckon it has more to do with composure than poor kicking.
Alot of poor kicks are no longer out there.
We need some cool heads under pressure, freaking out is contagious, but so is composure if we have enough of it around.

Re: WTF IS WRONG WITH OUR KICKING
Too many dumb kicks. Just kicking to stationary players gave Geelong about 3 goals and cost us just as many.
If you kick toa stationary player the zoning normally means an opponent can run in and spoil/mark and that they did last night.
Many an offender last night including BJ. Ray, Fisher and Geary.
Our poor kicking out of defence is way below the best teams. Geary and Gwilt this year in particular often give soft turnovers that generate goals for the opposition. The better teams have half backs that generate drive. Ours often gift the oppostion goals with too many poor turnovers.

Ask Rooey? Are you serious he cant even kick between 2 sticks 7 metres apart from 30 metres away.
