Warning for the Melb game; there has been a rule change
The Geish has done it again.
Changed the rules without warning.
There is a now a new rule.
"If you don't do everything possible to keep the ball in play it is a free kick against".
Introduced tonight in the Eagles game.
Reduced the game to a complete FARCE.
Well done Geish.
Last week you demonstrated you were corrupt.
This week you demonstrated you are inept.
What unpredictable irrational thing will you do next?

Re: Warning for the Melb game; there has been a rule change
I actually thought it was last week. If your name is Milne - free kick against you and maybe a 50 mtr penalty if the ump feels like it.

Re: Warning for the Melb game; there has been a rule change
Another "weekly" interpretation change.
Again, who the feck knows whats being done to improve umpiring these days as its behind the iron curtain.
Seriously, you want the public to stop ridiculing them? - remove the mystery and tell these trumped up maggots to get the feck OUT OF THE GAME and stop blwoing there whistle so they get to hear themselves on TV.
The old adage "children should be seen and not heard" was really written for umpires. Pay the frees that are clearly there and stop with the weekly shifts in interpretatio.
Deliberate out of bounds was a disgrace tonight.

Re: Warning for the Melb game; there has been a rule change
Although I don't like the spontaneity of springing the rule changes like that…
I do like the essence of penalising players who try and run the ball out, it's boring and I'm sick to death of the pathetic acting that players do when fumbling the ball over the line.
If they enforced this rule continually, the game would be more exciting and players would simply do more to keep the ball alive.

Indoor cricket nets around the boundary would do the job
Re: Warning for the Melb game; there has been a rule change
Oh no.
I'm worried.
Some of our guys kick it so it goes out of bounds without meaning to.

It's ok that magoo will be in the phone patching up that then over emphasising some other trivial piece of crap that they will over officiate.

hmm like the idea of it but worry about some of our defensive kicks to hit that line. what if the kick was in a players direction but bounced out in a differnt direction?????

Re: Warning for the Melb game; there has been a rule change
amen. When its a close game and only a few minutes left, the team who's behind has more chance of catching up. And I would be happy if they brought in the rule of playing on if someone kicks backwards to waste time. Wasnt that trialled in the NAB Cup ?dragit wrote:Although I don't like the spontaneity of springing the rule changes like that…

Has been for 3 years at least I think. It is basically classed as OOF or deliberate.

Please don't call him the Geish. It almost sounds like a term of endearment. The bloke is an incompetent foolEnrico_Misso wrote:The Geish has done it again.

But only on the full, belting it out on the bounce isn't necessarily a free, requires interpretation via 15.6.1(c)perfectionist wrote:15.6 Free Kicks — Relating to Out of Boundsstevie wrote:So if a ruck man or defender belts the ball ten rows in, it's a free?...

Re: Warning for the Melb game; there has been a rule change
Really? How many times have we seen a defender belt the ball out over the boundary line on the full - coming over the top of the pack or from within the pack - without it being called as a boundary throw in. All the time.Rosco wrote:But only on the full, belting it out on the bounce isn't necessarily a free, requires interpretation via 15.6.1(c)perfectionist wrote:15.6 Free Kicks — Relating to Out of Boundsstevie wrote:So if a ruck man or defender belts the ball ten rows in, it's a free?...

By "boundary throw" or "field" - do they mean from a boundary throw in or a bounce/ball up?

Re: Warning for the Melb game; there has been a rule change
Only if the umpire cant tell who did it, As perfectionist said since 2007 that rule has been in play. Cant remember any frees missed when I have watched games. Also if some does the same thing through the goals or behinds that is also a free.battye wrote:Really? Re: Warning for the Melb game; there has been a rule change
Sorry, my cut and paste missed a phrase, which I have amended. The full clause reads:battye wrote:...Really? How many times have we seen a defender belt the ball out over the boundary line on the full - coming over the top of the pack or from within the pack - without it being called as a boundary throw in. All the time.

(f) hits the football Out of Bounds on the Full from a boundary throw or a field bounce or throw by a field Umpire.
So, at a throw in or ball up, hitting the ball out on the full is a free. Hitting the ball out on the full as part of a spoil should not be a free, especially as it would be hard to work out the last player to touch it. If there was (say) a field kick, and it bounced, and then a player hits it out of bounds, on the full or otherwise, that then comes under part (c), and will be a question of umpire interpretation. Pretending to fumble the ball is the usual approach.
