Tall defender options from Melbourne

Post: # 1249553Post bergholt »

Apparently there's a few players the Demons haven't re-signed yet:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/d ... 23x3q.html

Most pertinent for us:

Jared Rivers, 192/92
James Sellar, 196/98

Rivers won the Rising Star at CHB a long time ago, but he's not that much bigger than Simpkin or Dempster. Still, he's not a bad player, I'd probably take him at the right price - would probably be a more reliable option than the undersized Gwilt at full-back. 28 next year so only has a few years left, not a real long-term solution.

Sellar just came over from Adelaide, played a few games for the Dees I think mostly in defence. I'm not sure he's much chop but has also played in the ruck at times, so that could be handy, and at 24 years old with 30-odd games his demographic fit is good.

I guess you could also look at Lynden Dunn or Troy Davis, who are also 192cm, but I don't think Dunn's a defender and Davis hasn't been able to get a game for a s*** side. Still both a bit small anyway.

Anyone have a better opinion on these guys than me?

Give me that McDonald kid they have in defence at the moment. He'll be a star. Trade Gram and a draft pick for him.

Sellar is a very average player, pretty much in the team only because Clarke and Watts are out and they need Garland free to go forward when required. Very little upside and we can find better.

Rivers is still a good player, but undersized for key back and we have enough of those types. I would presume he will stay at the Dees anyway as they would want him as a 3rd defender along side Frawley and Tom MacDonald

he may be a gun. he may be a key defender. neither of those are certain at this point, so maybe we shouldn't stick all our eggs in one basket, so another tall back would be handy.

At this point in time Ferguson isn't even a cap gun, we need to chase a KEY BACK and a KEY FORWARD

Will we pick up a player in the SSP window :?:

This would cause all sorts of problems.

We've already had his uncle there and his name was Spud. So would James be NOS (Nephew of Spud) or perhaps NOD (Nephew of Danny). Neither of those sound quite right.

Well we can't call him Spud MkII cos that's just silly. So probably have to look at some other potato product, eg Chips. Now that sounds okay :)

But hang on, we already have a Chips, who was originally a Fish and had to change to Chips because we already had another Fish.

Could call him Mash I suppose. Nah, that sounds crap.

Look I accept he's an outstanding talent, but it's just gonna be too much hassle if lure him down to Seaford :(

Con you would have seen him play maybe 4 times in 2 years. You really do go early. I think you said you were struggling to get a girl a while back. That may be the problem.
