The tough midfielder believes playing in the VFL will give him the best opportunity of getting back to the AFL.
"VFL definitely works to my strengths, which is contested footy, because I'm an in-and-under player and it helps playing on the smaller grounds over here," he says.
Sandingham is St Kilda's VFL affiliate, and Cockie has found himself playing alongside several senior-listed Saints, including Adam Schneider, Farren Ray and Brett Peake.
"It's great learning off that type of player and I hope they can learn from me, too," he says.
Cockie has settled well in Melbourne and is about to start a job as a mentor in indigenous communities.
"I just have to get used to the cold weather," he says.

Re: Adam Cockie
Hope he does well, seems like a good bloke.
Reports seem to suggest that he is a VFL class type of player lacking the spread for AFL.
That being said I don't know... just the impression I get

Re: Adam Cockie
A bit of James Magner about him with lack of spread but high intensity.

seems to average about 17 touches and 7 tackles. decent stats and obviously a hard nut but, yeah, doesn't sound like he'll be a superstar at the next level.Spinner wrote:Yeah VFL is his level. Been a good player this year.

He must be bloody good then. Seems similar to Magner from the sounds of it. Hope he kicks better. Anyway never understood the thrill in taking Sandy players ahead of any other VFL player unless they are better. I reckon about 4 have been mentioned this year. Are Sandy unbeaten or are the actual Saints players crap?

Re: Adam Cockie
Didnt say he was as good as Lenny, he's perfect replacement for him. Better then Magner IMO. Think big thing with Cockie is Watters told him to come over to Sandringham so he can have better opportunity getting on AFL list. From what im led to believe we almost rookie listed him last year. Only other real Sandy guy id look at is Hamish Shepheard as he can play ruck, forward and down back. Is exactly what we need. Other then that maybe Myke Cook as he's probably been best of Zebs but not sure where he'd fit into our side.plugger66 wrote:stkildathunda wrote:averages about 21 and 9 tackles. For most part Saints players for most part are crap. Archer, Shenton, Crocker, Winmar all should be playing Development Squad, just dont cut it in VFL seniors. Staley, Webster, Lever all Dev Squad players aswell.
Re: Adam Cockie
He is not slow, is in fact very quick in his first few steps.... But has a very contested style of game...
Loves body contact and can deliver an old fashion shirtfront legally with his low centre of gravity.... Ala Guerra 2004.
Wins not as much ball as Magner, but is more effective.... Similar overall ability
GWS would be mad not to secure hi

He plays as his name indicates, but he's not that good.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

Re: Adam Cockie
The reason we mention our Sandy boys is we see them and know them. I saw 2 games from the bullants last year and liked the look of Saad, but unless a player has a blinder from another team you don't notice them. Pederson from the roos looked incredible last year when I saw him and Miles Sewell and that Valenti guy are the only other stand out vfl players I can think of.
