From the little I've seen of Dunnell, he has a bit of George Young about him (for those old enough to remember George Young)..looking forward to watching him develop.

Back on Topic:

From what I've seen of Sam Dunnell (2 part games on TV) he looks pretty skinny for a mature aged recruit. That would suggest that he doesn't have the body for the bash & crash of AFL yet and that his form might drop off at any time. Has shown glimpses but needs to add some muscle to his frame !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Agree, he doesn't look like a 22 year old AFL footballer, probably because he is till reasonably new to serious-level footy, which is exciting really because he has got this far on raw talent, could be anything really.

He's a bit skinny and 22, very similar to The Virus who is now out of the side.

I had similar thaughts watching him play for Sandy against Port Melbourne a few weeks back.

Looked to have a similar build to the VFL listed players where guys like Peake stood out.

He did show he was a class above the players at that level however, I really hope he comes along and is part of a successful future

Yes, so long as they don't have a white-booted Phil Carman down the other end to kick 11.

I idolised Georgie Young as a kid. Still have my primary school jumper with 27 on the back. :D I too would love Dunnell to be a reincarnation of George Young. The guy just oozed class and talent! That 9 against Carmanwood came after 8 against the Doggies I think. Didn't he move to FF as he had the flu that week? :?:

seeing as though he went through the VAFA, its not like he has even many VFL preseasons to put on bulk...

he is at a good age to put on muscle, he will be immense after a proper AFL preseason (remember they dont get a full pre-season, if they are rookie drafts)

Till he builds up more bulk he is a perfect sub.

Can come on after half time and give us lots of run.
Plays tall - good overhead.
Quick.
High endurance.
Great desperation.

Just the sort of guy who can turn a game half way through the third quarter as a sub.

Father-son rules change opens up options

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/f ... 22nk6.html

"......Last year, Gold Coast and Sydney used this rule to prelist Josh Hall and Harry Cunningham as rookies. Had this rule been in place last year, the Bombers would have been able to secure Sam Dunell, the son of former premiership player Frank, with its last rookie pick, denying St Kilda the chance to choose him.

Dunell, who has played in the Saints' last two games after being elevated from the rookie list, was overlooked by all clubs in the national draft before being picked up as the No. 12 rookie....."

How unfortunate :) :P

That's funny. I have my high school jumper somewhere with 27 on the back for the same reason. Unless of course my ex wife burnt it or threw it out like most of my good memories.

I too loved George Young and had the number 27 stiched to the back of my woollen jumper.

I still remember that game against Collingwood where Young kicked 8, with 5 in the first quarter (The 9 goals was against Footscray the week before I think). Georgie Boy was in rare form at that stage of his career and that beautiful left foot was a dream to watch.

As a young tacker of about 9 that was my first "horror" moment as a Saints fan. Watching Poor Barry Lawrence being samashed in the last quarter by Carmen, and the Saints being overrun, haunted me for years.

Lucky there were worse moments to come over the next 35 years to almost erase that first gut wrenching memory.

btw. In a peverse sought of way I have loved every minute of it.
