Thats what I'm talking about!

Sacrifice your own game for the team.... And take responsibility for the opposition Gun Fwd....

Anyone can cruise around the backline mopping up, he does it better than most.... But with our current list and lack of key tall down back, he is needed as a defender, not a rebounder.

I rated his game, because he was accountable to a man and did his defensive role

Well Done!

Indeed.

Brown would have been too good for Simpkin, and Brown running riot could well have been the difference in them winning.

Who smothered that potential goal off the boat again?

Summed up how rattled Brown was.

Showed tonight why he is our best backman. I called for him to do this a couple of weeks ago. He doesn't have to do it every week - and let's be honest he had some pretty handy help down there as well tonight. Great to know that when he's called upon to do a job like that though, he hasn't forgotton how to do it - unlike Fletcher at Essendon.

3 kicks 2 handball 2 tackles 18 dream team points from a TOG of 96%
But he kept J Brown to 5 kicks 6 handball 3 marks and 51 dream team points from a TOG of 97%.

He stuck like glue to Brown all match allowing him only 1 goal 1 behind.
That prevented Brisbane from winning.
Riewoldt may have frustrated by close attention but Brown must have been exasperated.

Great thread. Tough old gig - hanging off Brown on a wet night. So great stuff Sam.

I agree that when he was on Brown he did well but I actually thought Gwilt was on Brown for a fair bit last night as well.

Cruise around the backline mopping up? Is that what Sam usually does? Do you realise even vaguely how many contested and intercept marks this guy takes in our backline each week? Agree he did well tonight as usual but I reckon you're selling his other games short...

Goes to show what dream team points are worth in the context of the game.... nothing

Some people rating players games by dream team points has me totally bemused.

Well played Chips

Just shows how dreamtime points can be a complete crock eh?!!

I did say he does mopping up better than most...

But it's not a difficult role to play, without a direct opponent... Or the weakest fwd... Cutting off marks is the role of that players

Even Nick Maxwell can do it...

great role for him in this game - against this opposition
and given he has lacked a little speed and take off power since coming back from injury.

Mr Reliable was just fantastic, did a great job.

Also, it actually wasn't a wet game. A 2 second sprinkle at the beginning of the game. Was over before I could get the coat out of the bag. Then about 7 minutes at the end of the game. Thank goodness as its been a very wet winter, especially considering its suppose to be the dry season for us.

Very good thread, and should say that it is considerably helped by Dempster evolving into a very good rebounder and 3rd man up in his own right

Best Defender on the Best Forward, makes sense…

Ideally, nearly all of the defenders are capable of some penetrating rebound. Gilbert, Gwilt, Gram, Dempster, Geary, Clarke, Fisher, Goddard can all be attacking, very different to having Baker, Dawson, Blake, Polo, Eddy in there who would not move the ball by foot forward (mind you, they were most probably just sticking to the plan)

I think he has to unless it is Gilbert. Simpkin on the resting ruckman.

SW definitely has Fisher playing a more accountable style of footy. I'm glad I didn't pick him in dream team.
