2nd biggest win ever over Bombers
Here is the list of our 8 goal+ wins against the Bombers:
2008 - 108 points
2012 - 71 points
1975 - 68 points
1973 (EF)- 67 points
1912 - 58 points
1968 - 56 points
1972 (EF) - 53 points
1961 - 48 points
I've seen them all (except for the 1912 game - I'm old, but not that old). There is one game that is not on the list, that we won by 7 goals, which is easily our best ever win against the Dons. It was played on Saturday 17th September 1966. The day was very wet and the ground (the MCG) was very muddy. When our team ran out onto the ground, Darrel Baldock and Ian Stewart (both Tasmanians who relished wet grounds) were both carrying baskets with contained cut sandwiches, biscuits and hot tea. They proceeded to have a real picnic, and in one of those finals games that we all dream of, the game was over at half time when we had kicked 10 goals to their three. But it was still nice to win by 12 goals last night.

Re: 2nd biggest win ever over Bombers
I've been following since mid-70s, and amazing that we haven't had more than a couple of substantial wins over them in that entire time. I remember some great wins at Windy Hill and Moorabbin, but never by big scores...
The future's so bright I've got to wear shades...

I remember a top win in 2004, in the 3rd or fourth game of our 10 win streak. The Bummers 'tough' men of Mark Johnson and Hardwick tried to rough up the young Roo. It didn't work as we ran out comfortable 28 pt winners

All I know is that my husband is a Bombers supporter and for the 26 years we have been together, Saints wins have been few. He is not a happy man today (but I am having a quiet chuckle for a change as well as the two kids who have been well trained as Sainters).

The game in 97 at the G was another classic. Stan put big Coggo on Hirdy and he bleated for the whole game that he was being scragged, punched, elbowed, whacked upside the head and driven into the ground at every opportunity. We won. How did we win? Easy.
hehhehehhehhehehheheh
Also remember another game at the G - at night, 1999, Harvey went beserk racking up possies. I think that win was by 7 or 8 goals. It was a real hiding and Essendon were the best team that year but we had their measure that night for sure.
