Kosi might have to play
Much as I've been trying to get Kosi dropped the past fortnight, this may not be the time.
Essendon has enough height to be able to really test our undersized defence and I forsee a role for Kosi as loose man in defence, trying to impact on every aerial contest. He can interchange with McEvoy in the ruck.
Wilkes and Sipposs to the forward line.

If he is playing in that position I suggest he does it at Sandy. He will play but it will forward and in the ruck, hopefully as little as possible.

Thats fine but i dont understand the position you want him to play. As a spare man in defence. i doubt the saints would want him as our spare man. And he couldnt play on anyone even a ruckman.

Re: Kosi might have to play
It's not without precedent to drop a ruckman back across half back to try to dominate (or stop the opposition dominating) that area. The spare man doesn't have to be a running player.

First up 3 of those players are bona fide ruckmen. We have seen what has happened with the Blues when they try and play ruckmen as permanent key fwds. I don't reckon all 3 will play personally. Crameri is now missing. And lastly I am very sceptical about the height listings re Hurley. He's a big strong lad and a great footballer, but I don't reckon he's the same height as Nick Riewoldt and 1cm smaller than Kosi. I reckon he's somewhere between 190-192cm.
This rubbish about loading up the fwd line with height is a furphy. If they want to beat us, then Davey, Jetta, and a couple of other smalls will be parked down there.
Re: Kosi might have to play
Adelaide and Nth exposed us with Talls..... Essendon have done it in the past with Hille and Ryder kicking multiples
expect
Ryder, Hurley and another Tall to stretch our defense
Monfries, Jetta and Davey will add speed..... Ryder and Hurley are VERY mobile

Yeah, it's a worry. No Zac has cost us a few games at least.BigMart wrote:Adelaide and Nth exposed us with Talls..... Essendon have done it in the past with Hille and Ryder kicking multiples

Re: Kosi might have to play
Lack of height is a real running sore now. I can't say that I like the thought of Kosi on the backline, but more ruck support and "rolling back" as a spoiler could be something that we have to do. This will give McEvoy a break and enable him to use his height around the central area and up forward, as he is a good mark around the ground.

Re: Kosi might have to play
It's funny because
We have 7 players above 193cm, And Essendon have 8
Yet they have much more tall options, very weird stat

Re: Kosi might have to play
Kosi will have to play... agreed...
Also agree with Resting Macca in defence, but keep him there lots, and leave kosi to do the bulk of the rucking... (I know kosi is bad at it, but no worse than playing forward atm)
Dont think winning the tap has as big an impact as being strong in defence... just shark their ruckman's tap, and rely on our midfield to play their roles...

Re: Kosi might have to play
although he would not get anywhere near a game in the other 17 teams, we may be left with no option but to play him. In a game like this where we are severly disadvantaged with height, i will just trust the club this week.

I think all our boys have been horribly exposed as the GP shifts, don't reckon Zac would fair much better.
Big lesson being taught at the moment.

Well the way i look at, it wouldnt have hurt to have him. We certainly could have used him and the positive is guys like Jimmy and Tom get lesser players.

Re: Kosi might have to play
Yes the game plan has changed but it doesn't alter the fact we are badly lacking height in defence. Zac is tall and quick and would have been a walk up start all year.SainterK wrote:You reckon?bigcarl wrote:Yeah, it's a worry. Interesting observation of yours that he wouldn't get a game with GC, GWS or Melbourne.
That's a shame. Or is it that you are thriving in the downfall of a once good player??

Re: Kosi might have to play
some say there is no point playing Kosi down back, but what is the point in playing him forward?
crashing the packs? sterling stuff.
put him in defense and make him accountable for someone, if he gets shown up, is it not due?
need to go small brigade up forward with Saad and Milera and Milne. And let Nick, Siposs, and Wilkes do what they can. it's our only hope Luke

It is interesting indeed. But as you said he is on the downfall, some would say he fell long ago, and no club other than us goes around picking up players who are well past their time, or on the downfall. Although Melbourne is an interesting one now you mention it. They may actually need a player like him at this point in time, Only because Clarke is out for the year, if he was in thats a totally different story...
I dont thrive on players leaving the club or playing poorly, i just say it as it is. The truth hurts sometimes.
