Would love to hear a bit more about Daniel Markworths game…?

Someone mentioned he is a class above, did he have a good game, or just do a few good things?

He will be a star, very composed under pressure, great hands, kicks well, very quick, and tackles really well for a guy who is built like a matchstick. He still drifts in and out of the game a bit, but that happens with kids especially playing half forward

that may have been the unexplainable- 50 near the mellee or the kick in from what appeared to be a contested ball out of bounds.

Ledger

1- ignores the first option
2- goes to his left too often, which means he chunks it back a lot (like Ray)
3- HAS NO DEFENSIVE SIDE!!! Which is the real issue.... It's a work rate problem, he doesn't work hard enough

But he does put his nose over it, and can find it..... So he can play

as I reminded someone today- they may well be saints listed players but there are only 3 with lng term experience- Ray, Peake and Polo today...
the rest are 22 or under with limited AFL or for that matter VFl experience- many of the second and third year guys had interrupted 2011's

I only saw the last quarter but the two standouts by far, looking to the future, were Curren and Markworth.

Both look very likely.

Simpkin is a concern for me....

Good player, been saying this since 09 and is a VG VFL defender

His size is a real worry.... Yesterday he had his hands full with Galea at times who is a 188cm 92kg small FF who I thought Simpkin would be a strong match up for.

He is really a third tall prospect at AFL level and won't be able to give up 5-10cm and 5-10 kg every week with success. Him playing on Tippett, Cox, Kennedy, Reid, Butcher, Riewoldt, Waite etc... Is unrealistic

Problem with his third defender possibility is that he will be competing with Gwilt who is a better ball user and is stronger, Gilbert who is more athletic, Dempster who is a better defender/player and is more versatile....

As I said before..... If he was 195cm and 95kg he would be star

Not only that he doesn't have the closing speed like a Max Hudghton.

yeh i agree. i dont get to see the vfl, i live in perth. so i was very keen to see him live against wce this year and was interested to see how he went against darling and co and what the dynamics of the back line were.

simpkin was spent by the 1st qtr. was constantly caught out of position and tbh was a liability in the back line. dempster had to keep organising everyone down back.

i think he can get there. just needs more development. working on his fitness is the first step. he needs to hit next pre season hard and build his tank.

Agree on Simpkin was disappointed in his one on one work yesterday, he should have been better.
Watching Ledger closely, he is just too individual and agree with BM is on his left far too often.
He rarely looks for options and is intent on beating a man before disposing of it.
Not in line for a game in the 1's for mine.

Markworth on the other hand impressed me, he looks the goods for mine.

I also reckon Dowler deserves a chance, if he was on our list proper, I reckon he might be a chance for a senior spot, at least for his size.

I thought Ross and Curren were very promising as well.

Do you mean Dunell? If Dunell puts in a season in the Gym he will be a monty for selection in the seniors.

Name a defender that at times during a game doesnt have hands full. Simpkin shut Galea out of game yesterday. 2 of his 3 goals were gifted to him. One by most ridiculous hands in back you'll ever witness and other from 50m penatly given away from Marigliani. He had 3 inside opening term and didnt kick another one for rest of the match.

Both Cripps & Simpkin are upto a whopping 12 games each, if they haven't made it by now, they're never going to make it…

I thought Simpkin did an outstanding job on Galea...Galea is one of the best marks going around...he's one of those few players who can be running at full speed and take a mark with one grab...no juggling...Dunstall used to do that...he only kicked 3 goals...and I think 2 of those were from free kicks.....in fact in the last 1/4 I watched Galea giving his teammates a blast about not kicking it properly to him...Galeas frustration was evident after 1/4 time when I reckon Tom Simpkin completely outclassed him...he spoilt him on many occasions

Galea did not have a possession fron the end of the first qtr till mid way through the last qtr.
Taking into consideration he is one of the best forwards in the comp playing in the best team, I think it was a fair effort by simpkin. Also toms done nothing wrong to be dropped from the seniors and be replaced by hack Clarke!

That is the point

Galea is a good VFL standard FullForward at 188cm..... He is NO Kurt Tippett, Travis Cloke

Simpkin is 191cm 90 kg.....
