A good news story about the Club admin
No names.
But recently a good friend of mine's mother passed away after a short illness.
Lovely lady, full of life, not young, but gone too early.
Both her and her son are lifelong Saints supporters and involved in the sponsorship program.
Whilst she spent the latter part of her life in Melbourne she hails from the country, about two hours out of Melbourne.
It was there, just outside her hometown that she was laid to rest in a graveside ceremony at a beautiful peaceful bush cemetery.
Anyway it was fantastic to see one of the guys that helps run the sponsorship program turned up to the funeral to represent the StKFC.
At the end of the formalities he placed a Saints scarf in the grave on the coffin.
Nice gesture, particularly as it was a middle of the day ceremony, so all up it would have taken about 5 hours out of his day.
And this was the day before a big home game, so there would have been a hundred things waiting to be organised.
We all bag the club when they stuff something up, and accuse them of being money-hungry, ignoring the heart and soul members etc.
But here's a nice example of a really empathetic background gesture that made me feel proud of the club.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Great story, unless they were just trying to get rid of those misprinted scarves.

Re: A good news story about the Club admin
The club does many things that most people wouldnt be aware of. A friend of mine was tragically killed in a car accident 8 years ago. The accident was actually 5 days before our first loss of the year to Sydney in Sydney and the funral was held before our second loss of the year to the Bulldogs at the G. The club arranged for Rooy, Aaron Hamill and Lenny Hayes to visit her 5 kids at their home along with the coach at the time GT. They also had on the banner RIP to poor Ann on the front of the banner before the dogs game and the family got into the room after the game. We also had a fund raising night for the family and the club gave signed surf board which got 5K for the family. GT even went to the funeral and did not know the family at all. I will never forget what the club did at the time and still get emotional even as I write this.
In a strange coincidence the Daughter of Ann, my daughter and GT's daughter are now best friends from school.

Thanks for sharing this, both of you.
It's nice to hear about this kind of stuff.
(and sorry for your losses)

Just to add to the theme of this thread;
One of our own (rogerwa) required multiple bypass surgery a few years ago. One of those who visited him in hospital was our then coach, Grant Thomas. Yes, the team was in Perth for a game but for an AFL coach to do this whilst on an interstate trip for a game is above & beyond the call of duty !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
