Nicky Dal on sledging
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/t ... 20m6k.html
""YOU blokes still taking photos of one another?'' It was last year at the height of an unpleasant issue at my club that became very public and the opposition player clearly wanted to upset me. It wasn't the best attempt. I just smiled and ran on. What do you say to that anyway?
If you react, you are falling in for it. My approach from the start with sledging has been to ignore it or laugh. Normally, worse stuff comes over the fence than from inside it anyway - like the bloke who said ''surely it wasn't that cold when you were taking the photos'' and stuff like that. I thought it was funny and just laughed it off..............."

Re: Nicky Dal on sledging
Just shows that Dal is the Zen master!
its funny how some people are driven by passion and agression, and some players just prepare and play....
think Dal v BJ....
2 very skilled players with 2 very different approaches to the game....
(doesn't really mean anything, just find it interesting)

Re: Nicky Dal on sledging
When I played footy sledging was part and parcel of the game.
I had no problem with, because I generally viewed it as a compliment, or as a weakness that your opponent felt he needed to do it to stop you.
It seems that Peace is pretty easily put off his game...
The best way to get back at sledgers is to beat them.

So again I will ask you this. Why did they stop racist or religious comments?

Couldn't aggree more. That is why older generations taught "sticks and stones".hAyES wrote:In other words suck it up Danyle. He's as soft as it comes.
For crying out loud. They are words. Not bullets.
We are teaching generations of childeren to be so oversensitive that they just won't be able to cope with the smallest of issues in life.
There is now whole industries and billions of dollars spent on providing protection laws, mediation centres and all types of over the top policing to protect people from worrds. WORDS!
Grow some I say or just ignore it. It usually takes the oxygen out of it.
Good on you Dal. Obviously your Mum taught "sticks and stones".

Probably because it's against the law Plugger. Hard to allow it to continue if they are legislating against it for broader society.plugger66 wrote:Leo.J wrote:When I played footy sledging was part and parcel of the game.

I'm sure that's not the only reason though

Do you verbally abuse your children just to toughen them up? No, well then why is someone else allowed to. Yes then you are living in the past.
Words and how we use them demonstrate the level of maturity of our society
Abuse shows a lack of that.
Also the football field is now a work place (eg players now have a duty of care) so are you allowed to abuse your fellow workers. No, funny that so why are the footballers different.
" A few will never give up on you. When you go back out on the field, those are the people I want in your minds. Those are the people I want in your hearts."
