From 6 in Parallel to 6 in Series
I remember the old days in the 70s and 80s at Moorabbin.
The game would finish.
People would invade the ground.
The players would leave.
The kick to kicks would commence.
The crowd would drift away.
Except for the those waiting with baited breathe to see the results of the other 5 games.
The scoreboard guy would eventually fill in R and S, or C and D and a murmur would go up "The Roys have knocked off South" or whatever.
Once all 6 results were locked in, it was then time to leave or join the queue to get into the social club.
Those were the days.
Point is it would have been IMPOSSIBLE to imagine then, that the day would come when if would be possible to watch on one weekend ALL six games in full LIVE (on TV).
Now it is quite conceivable, that with Thursday and Monday nights it might soon be possible (subject to marital constrints) to watch 9 games in full on one weekend

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

Yeah marital constraints is an issue re watching footy.
It's warfare - so to watch non-Saints games you need to get the kids on side. Better they watch the footy than crappy kids shows!!
If hubby and kids are content then wifey is usually OK!!!

A-B, C-D, E-F, G-H, K-N and R-S. We were mostly E. Alphabet letters I, J, L, M, O, P, Q, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z must have felt slighted (I think U-V eventually got a run). I remember when an enterprising scoreboard attendant at Carlton, in the late 70s I think, decided to post scores DURING the quarter, and this was hailed as a great breakthrough, or a "new innovation" as Peter Landy was want to say. There was a page on the Football Record where you could write down the quarter by quarter scores of the games "around the grounds". I'm not sure when this started, probably when radio was available. It was certainly in place in the 30s. So it was a practice for at least 50 years.
