So we dismiss this game because he was good...
Why didn't BJ, Dal, Joey, Lenny get 45 touches against them??
Poor old Grammy isn't allowed credit it seems...

Jason Gram is in our best 22 and his form this year has been pretty good.

If you were to be critical you could suggest tackling needs improvement. But good game indeed! Seems to have worked on his finding a target. And rarely lets his man get away from him.

Indeed.
I think some are forgetting that we are playing a more attacking gameplan this year.
This means also that we "lean" to more attacking players.
Gram greater than Eddy.
Not saying that Gram cannot improve aspects of his game....but Gram is the type of player we very much need in our 22...along with Saad, Milera, Schneider and the like....and maybe even Raph!!!

Re: Jason Gram's game
I'm going out on a limb and saying since coming back from injury in our top 5. Can't say any of Lenny, Dal, Goddard or Montagna who are the usual suspects are tearing it up in the last month. Roo has been very solid but not dominating, Fisher hasn't been playing. Surprisingly in the same period I would say that Blake would be up there too, the guy has gone up a gear this season playing well where ever needed. I know it's subjective but someone has to make the big calls.SaintPav wrote:Jason Gram is in our best 22 and his form this year has been pretty good.
It's a great sign that with out the usual dominant top 5 we are still a very competitive side.
Re: Jason Gram's game
His tackling has been Good, and nice smother also..... His number are great
I know posters hate to acknowledge a whipping boy.... But agreed he has been one of the best players since returning.

Re: Jason Gram's game
Interesting to listen to Scotty on 3AW this arvo saying that he and Grammy had a frank discussion earlier on in the year and Scott said Jason wasn't really in his plans to go forward unless he changed a few things. He's quite happy with his output at the moment but must continue with his progress.
On another note Scotty said they face an interesting selection problem this week with Geary, Fisher and MC. EVOY all ready for selection

That is interesting… makes sense too though, we have a lot blokes jostling for a HB position.tony74 wrote:Interesting to listen to Scotty on 3AW this arvo saying that he and Grammy had a frank discussion earlier on in the year and Scott said Jason wasn't really in his plans to go forward unless he changed a few things. I think Geary is ahead of Polo for the specialist 'small' defender, then automatic selections are Fisher, Gwilt, Goddard, Gilbert, Dempster.
Simpkin probably keeps Blake out if all going well… then we have Gram, Ray, Clarke, Peake, Newnes, Cripps & Winmar vying for a HB spot.

That has been what I've been trying to say all along, don't judge him on his past, judge him on the now.

There is absolutely no chance that Blake will be dropped from the team.dragit wrote:That is interesting… makes sense too though, we have a lot blokes jostling for a HB position.tony74 wrote:Interesting to listen to Scotty on 3AW this arvo saying that he and Grammy had a frank discussion earlier on in the year and Scott said Jason wasn't really in his plans to go forward unless he changed a few things. If you want proof of his backman capabilities then just look at his game on Waite or his third quarter on a red hot Riewoldt.
Re: Jason Gram's game
10 pages on a guy who has been good to very good most games. Why cant people watch a game without bias. Gram deserves a game and will continue to get a game unless his form drops off. It hasnt as yet and doesnt look like it.

Re: Jason Gram's game
I think going forward he will have to make way for Simpkin… obviously Blake is very important right now with our best defender and 2 ruckmen missing, he is doing an amazing job too but…FQF wrote:There is absolutely no chance that Blake will be dropped from the team.

Simpkin too has been playing very well, but even if he is slightly behind Blake in his defensive capabilities… he needs the experience of playing against good AFL forwards. Even club greats have to make way for youth at some stage, Milne will be next.

Re: Jason Gram's game
Here is the transcript Scotty thinks he can pull another 20 to 25% out of Grammy... He may end up living up to his undoubted potential . I trust Scottys judgement.tony74 wrote:Interesting to listen to Scotty on 3AW this arvo saying that he and Grammy had a frank discussion earlier on in the year and Scott said Jason wasn't really in his plans to go forward unless he changed a few things. Watters also praised Jason Gram's development after conceding he showed the onballer some tough love during the pre-season.
"Grammy and I probably hit a little bit of a juncture in the pre-season," he told 3AW.
"That probably caused him to reflect on where he was going. He had to probably just take a step backwards in order to move forward.
"I reckon his last four or five weeks in particular, he's just consistently now building for some really good footy. I still think there's a real upside to Grammy and I'm really challenging him now to tap into that last 20 to 25 per cent."

Lenny has got votes in the paper nearly every week, sitting top 5 in the paper
Goddard was fantastic against richmond

Not quite, you also said you saw Goddard give him a rocket for pathetic efforts in qtrs 1 and 2 against Tiges?SainterK wrote:tony74 wrote:Interesting to listen to Scotty on 3AW this arvo saying that he and Grammy had a frank discussion earlier on in the year and Scott said Jason wasn't really in his plans to go forward unless he changed a few things. which is it?
Clearly the coach saw issues with Gram (who according to Marto has been in Brownlow form since 09 GF..) enough that Watters hadto show him "tough love" to get him to pull his finger out?
Anyways, thats good news - the coach is all to aware of Grams ability to go awol/half hearted when we are under heat and clearly wont tolerate that output and thats as it should be.

No we just take account of the oppostion which you do regulalrly when banging on about who wont/will make it FFS.....we played Gold Coast.....keep it in your pants...lets just focus on the outcomes and applaud who stands up against Crows in Adelaide on Friday before we go all gooey.BigMart wrote:So we dismiss this game because he was good...

Poor old Grammy isn't allowed credit it seems...
As for the others you named - you want them dropped? OR
Are you saying these named players have had 1 decent game since 09 GF??????? OR maybe theyve done a little more than Jason since then??
Lets not lose ALL our objectivity when attempting to make a bloody minded point shall we??

Re: Jason Gram's game
Blakes spot is in danger IMO if it means leaving Simpkin out - Blake is not our future.
IF we have 27-28 to fit into 22....you have to start looking at players that make your side better......... not just for this year IMO.

Blake would still get games but if that scenario eventuates he becomes "horses for courses" back up for mine
McEvoy doesnt seem to have "gone down" in to many games Ive seen.......

Blake has cemented his spot, no chance he'll be out surely?
He is a great backup ruckman, but do people forget his game on Waite earlier this year....still a handy backman.
Love the Blake
