Composure under pressure
Just thinking over Friday nights game and it was surprising that it was our more experienced players that coughed the ball up in critical stages.
Our young blokes almost seemed to thrive on the contest and the crowd.
You look at the following and almost sigh that the critical turnovers in the end made all the difference.
1. Roo and Kosi missing soda's
2. Roo's pass to Armo in the F50 in the last.
3. Roo's handball to Terry when Terry had literally nowhere to go
4. Joey's kick across the face of goal to Bj. The ball didn't even make it to him on the full!
5. Milney in the last trying too much.
Hopefully Scott shows all 5 to the players this week and then shows the Melbourne Dons game just to show them what complacency can do. GC up there should be an easy win, however they are coming off a big loss and with the focus on them after how badly they played and the fact that Ablett got 53 touches, they will be gee'd up to make a point.

Agree, although I think we will win, hopefully we don't get complacent. It doesn't seem too long ago that we played them at their home ground and although we won, we didn't look that flash and didn't win by the margin that everybody thought we woul. Saying that however we were playing a more defensive game back then and now we r taking the game on more and attacking, so here is hoping for a big win.

Re: Composure under pressure
Ablett getting 53 is better for us,they played really good team footy when he was out. It's like they defer to his authority when he's in the team, if all the play is directed through him it gives them a sense of predictability that is easier to counteract.

Re: Composure under pressure
Good post Buckets - Id add Milera's almost certain goal and brain fade to pass to Riewoldt...
We have the ability to almost make what look like"gimme" goals you see other sides slot............look painfully engineered??
Milne is seriel offender - what irks me more than anything is if we are 7 goals up and coasting....Milne does the impossible.......when its tight, tough and we are under the pump and we need the "smart" decision from Milne....he often plays on, gets caught, drops the ball or tries the impossible with a team mate goal side (see Riewoldt last qtr brain fade missed Milne goal)........see GF's.....
The Captain.........kicks it from 50.......struggles from15.....see Kosi...........it goes on and on and these things cost us games and have done for a while.
Problem is - how do you teach old dogs composure who have not had it?...ironically, you get the feel Sippos has this in spades and even Saad with his deliberate run up is consistent

It was surely playing on his mind...If ever there was a time to go for the goal, that was it! He will learn, hopefully.SainterK wrote:viewtopic.php?f=1&t=76012Teflon wrote:Id add Milera's almost certain goal and brain fade to pass to Riewoldt...

Agree LLS, reckon it played on his mind.
Hopefully Scott told him to not worry about team mates, but to follow his instructions.

We played them earlier this year and won by 15 goals or so.saintkellerm wrote:Agree, although I think we will win, hopefully we don't get complacent. As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Yes but the week after they came out breathing fire against the dons and nearly won it. This game is a danger in the fact that we won so easily only 8 weeks ago. They will be coming off an insipid performance with Ablett getting more touches than the team got points.
