The 2012 Draft?????
This coming draft is supposed to be a good one. What are we going to go after? We need a key position forward, to groom to take over from Kosi and Roo. We need a large key position defender. We just dont have one. We desperately need ruckmen. What priority would you pick? Which do we use our first pick on?
In the case of ruckmen, I would take the best youngster we can get, then another as a rookie for insurance.

Isn't our first pick likely to be number 371, even if we don't win another game?

Re: The 2012 Draft?????
Nah! We are going to have a heap of 1st round picks to compensate for all of these players that posters on here believe are going at the end of this season.
Re: The 2012 Draft?????
If there's a gun CHF available at our 1st pick then go for him... otherwise best available, which would likely be a mid or speedy rebounder.
Roo and Kosi got prob another 2 years ahead of them. After that a forward line of...
Markworth? Stanley Saad
Siposs Milera resting mid
... looks ok
I am less concerned down back as Gwilt, Gilbert, Geary, Newnes are part of our younger brigade, and Ferguson looks like he is coming up. I reckon Chips is the sort to go on to 34/35 yo also.

Re: The 2012 Draft?????
Sam Reid. I'm sure we can get him on a three year contract where we pay him $500,000pa for the first two years and nothing for the third. Or perhaps as a variation, we will pay him nothing for the first year and $500,000 for the next two.

Well, if we want a MONSTER CHF we should wait until the 2013 Draft. THOMAS BOYD from Eastern Rangers is 196cm & 100Kg. He doesn't turn 17 until August. Has kicked a few bags in a chyt side this year. Sounds a bit like TONY LOCKETT !!

Re: The 2012 Draft?????
Time to trade for a key defender this year I would think. Try to do a Sydney and pick a developing player who has lacked opportunity eg Mitchell BRown WCE or David Astbury Richmond. Someone we can piuck up without having the 'sell the farm'. To do that they will have to trade or delist some of our excess players eg Clarke, Peake, Jones or Ray.

If we draft exclusively from the Under 18 comp then this years weaknesses will still be there next year
Will we pick up a player in the SSP window

Agreed, we will need a couple of KPP Forwards by 2014-15. Recruit & Develop in the 2012-13 Drafts.bobmurray wrote:If we draft exclusively from the Under 18 comp then this years weaknesses will still be there next year
We need a KPP backman and a Ruckman YESTERDAY. Will need to trade or go to the State Leagues to satisfy our needs here.
Beyond that you can never have enough midfielders, especially those who can go forward and kick goals. These need to be recruited from the U18s and developed
If we could also duplicate our feats with Milera & Saad from the State Leagues that would also be handy

Re: The 2012 Draft?????
Why does everyone want to draft a ruckman with our first pick? Surely most people believe that McEvoy has proven that he can deliver on his potential and will be our ruckman for the next 10 years. And Stanley has shown he is very capable to give him a chopout. Now, obviously we need some depth in that position, but this needs to be a ready made ruckman either from another club or a mature ager from the state leagues. First pick needs to be either a Key Forward, Key Back or a Midfielder, probably what is best available at our pick.

How do you come up with the question..Saintersss wrote:Why does everyone want to draft a ruckman with our first pick? Maric was no Cox at start of season....apparently is now.
Rucks develop late why spend 18 years developing if the need is now? trade for a ruck not getting a go/state league.
KPP FWD, Back and Mids

Rucks and FB's take a while to develop. Drafting kids will not help for years.
Ferg is showing signs though that he may start to come on next season.

After scouting bigfooty
There seems to be a consensus that there are 4 Kpp's and 2 Ruckmen good enough to go top 20
Have to remember that it is still only early days, But I wouldn't mind a good key position prospect
