Still cant fathom that some see Goddard as replacable, easy top 10 player in the league IMO!
Maybe this year?

Re: Lyon sniffing around
I cant fathom why BJ would leave all his mates family etc just to go and hang around Ross Lyon for a couple of years . Im pretty sure Lyon has not got BJ brainwashed. Just seems like nonsense. Its not like BJ will be paid peanuts at the Saints.

Seriously, anyone who gives an airtime to sportsnewsfirst tripe needs to go up before the Leveson inquiry simply for being stupid.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

"The Saints salary cap problems have been well documented through AFL circles with mounting anticipation that at least one big and probably even two top servants will be squeezed out at the end of this season."
Probably even two top players eh?

Re: Lyon sniffing around
The tone of that article harks back to the "St.Kilda are an automatic rabble" mindset of the 80's and 90's.
Makes me want to puke the way they devalue everything we are, but then I remember that in the short time Pelchen's been here and with the scarce, limited opportunities he's had, he's still managed to completely re-invigorate this list and inject a few rippers. Before Pelchen, we gave away Ball for nothing, we payed a kitchen sink for Lovett, and our best pick-ups over a five year period were serviceable role-players at best.
Pelchen, in one off-season, turned a mid-range pick into two low mid-range picks and picked up Milera and Saad, picked up a potential champion midfielder of the future in Seb Ross, picked up a potential wildcard in Beau Wilkes, and brought in a bunch of other kids, all of whom have the potential to be something special.
On top of that, the introduction of the academy has hailed a cutting-edge new era in our list management strategy and player development. The list is being extensively cultivated and cared for and planned for and invested in. It is in better hands than it's ever been in!
Gone are the days where we are at the mercy of our star players. Whatever situation arises at the end of the year I have confidence that the correct, informed, reasoned decision that best serves the interests of this team and this club will be made.
Let the fear-mongering st.kilda haters continue to forecast doom and gloom and pretend we're in crises all they want. All clubs face these same challenges. We have the right people, we're on the right path, and it seems every one is truly on the same page.
This time, this time, we will stay the course until we get the job done, be that sooner or later....

Money talks and we're talking about the Clokes remember.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:I don't think Freo will get any star from anywhere ... Ross will do a sweep of the list at years end and he will need fast results from the Freo board so expect him to fill up with "role" players who will follow his plan to the letter he will get players on the outer with their clubs who need a second chance and will work hard for him ... A Star player will be too hard to bring over and sell the game plan to .. Especially a forward .. Can you imagine Ross trying to sell Freo and his game plan of defend clog and keep it close to a power forward like Cloak ??
Finey rekons the BJ rumor has some legs.
I'm a bit worried that he hasn't singned by now and if does not sign by the end of July, he's a good chance to go. It shouldn't take that long to negotiate if both parties want to make it happen.

Surely if we heavily back end Goddard's contract to account for Roo's final million deal or two then surely that will be enough and essentially they swap positions from second highest paid player to first and vice versa? Disclaimer as this is just a guess however could be the basis for it to work.
Getting Goddard to Fremantle would be plain bizarre in my opinion. They already have enough distributors of the ball and whilst not at Goddard's level surely they need inside midfielders to which BJ is not a pure insider.
On the flipside if it does happen and he leaves we will get compensation and cap space to make a play for someone who wants to play at St Kilda.
Mind you I struggle to see why Goddard would leave. He will demand top dollar and go to a team that is challenging. Can any challenging team afford him without trading out top end talent that took the club to the dance in the first place?

Apart from your opinion is that based on anything?
Re: Lyon sniffing around
Why would anyone want to leave the Saints ATM. If we can maintain our form and our younger players improve with their natural progression then I think we will have a pretty happy environment.

Think your overselling Pelchans role in it all and not giving any credit to Ameet Bains which he deserves a hell lot of.hungry for a premiership wrote:The tone of that article harks back to the "St.Kilda are an automatic rabble" mindset of the 80's and 90's.

SEN Finey. He said he made some calls yesterday and the rumour that Freo were going hard for Cloke and BJ was confirmed. He couldn't confirm the Hill part.magnifisaint wrote:Who's Finey and what does he know?
