Or in the GF replay??
Did Nick perform well, and was almost the reason we played in the GFs after his prelim finals
Was Nick poor in all three games?? Was 2009 really suited to key Fwds???
Are we judging players who have played 470 games combined by their GF outings???
Hardly went missing after quarter time, was still serviceable after tearing the game to shreds in the first quarter. His blonde mate wasn't sited all day. He had nothing left to give in GF2 after playing the most kamikaze game of football ever seen, was blatantly obvious to those that attended. Nick was putrid again the following week in A1 conditions for a forward
Nick Raph and lenny got us in in 09. Roo can hardly be given the reason for us making it in 2010.
At the end of the day Roo was an exceptional player, but over rated. Lenny has given more to our clubs cause, and is still delivering of the highest output, whilst others have been on the decline for quite some time...
Nup. Disagree. Those that think that big key fwds that perform week after week are overated are just part of the midfield love affair that is the popular view of the media. Lenny has been superb for our club and I love the bloke to bits. But Roo is the reason we were the team we were. He plays at a far higher plane than any player at the saints bar Lockett (poss Harves)
To say that Lenny was tagged after 1/4 time in GF09 must amuse Roo. He is tagged EVERY week, and usually by two players. To say that Lenny was exhausted after GF 2010 is purely an excuse. Goddard played just as well as Lenny in GF 1 of 2010. He also played well the following week.
You must have missed the first 2 finals in 2010 Jonesy. Roo set the 1st final up against the cats, slaughtering his opponent. He was BOG in the prelim that year, turning the game on it's head in the 3rd quarter.

why would we make him Capt ? Simple really, it's all about respect, the capt or leader in any theater of combat must be respected or the concept fails.
I find it incredible that some can't see that and talk of age.
If I was playing in the team I would respect Lenny more than Roo, personal preference but there ya go.
No room for Harves? I understand that people love Plugger, but when it comes to loyalty, he missed that bit. If you didnt play your whole career at St Kilda, you dont count. In my book.
Since Roo did his knee, everyone seems to have forgotten how awesome he was. Also its easy after a couple of years to forget how good Harves was. But Lenny is a superstar for sure, made of the same ilke as Harves. But with a personality of an angel and a face as cute as a button
Obviously I'm a child of the 80's who really took notice of footy in the early 90's .. I can't remember Barker and never saw baldock big Carl Ian Stewart or Ross Smith .. But that's the top 10 that I will tell the grandkids about watching

I don't buy into that loyalty stuff Plugger put bums on seats he won games off his own boot and when the dark days were around it was him as the shining light .. In my eyes the most dominant intimidating and aggressive player I have ever seen .. SOS was the best defender of all time and not even he could stop Plugger ... I shudder to think how good Plugger would have been in a stronger team then St Kilda

As legendary as those blokes are, hopefully by the time the grandkids come along half of them will have been replaced by new superstars that were part of our most successfull era ever
If you look at individual seasons.....plugger had 3 awesome seasons over a 12 season career.... Many very good half seasons due to injury or suspension and some OK early seasons
Rob Harvey had 4 awesome seasons ( including 1 where he beat plugger in the b&f in one of his awesome seasons 92) and about 14 other seasons where he was very good and better...
What I can't get my head around
He was dominant in the early 90's
Better in the mid nineties
And still excellent early/mid 00's

Harvey had tricks. Lenny has tricks as does Roo.
But Plugger was the one who just made you think "he shouldn't be able to do that".
Regularly.
The other thing Is Plugger always had an opponent and sometimes 2 or 3. Stop Plugger stop the saints. Mids sometimes have an opponent but never more than one. Hard to tell that from watching it on TV though. Need to get to games.
lol...we are comparing totally diff types of players..you guys are funny.
this thread started out extolling the virtues of Lenny, it has spiraled into a cheap venue for one upmanship.
