An IDEA for the Swans game !!
I thought ; Put the acid on Kosi to be the #1 ruckman this week and play BJ as our Full Forward. There are a few reasons behind this;
With NO Mumford, Kosi gets a good run at it (yes, I've noted that some have said he's a pretty dumb ruckman. Are there any ruckmen who AREN'T dumb?). Kosi to also rest up forward when not on the ball
Blakey to be the back up and he can go back to rest, allowing Gilbo or Chips to go forward during this time.
This might necessitate Wilkes to keep his spot in the side to assist at BOTH ends
This idea might also be dependant on Jimmy and/or Raph being selected in the side
I'll now sit back and wait for my arguement to be shot down in flames !!

I like that you have ideas, but I don't like Kosi being number one ruck.
Purely because what he was doing was working, and well.
Shame to mess with his momentum.

I think Eastern's plan is not just an idea - it's the only realistic option.
I don't like Koz rucking, but the cupboard is now bare. He has to. Blake can't go all day.
Gwilt and Fisher to pinch hit fwd?

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Not if you go by the votes on here. BJ will never make a FF. Isnt quick enough on the lead and cant take contested marks. He is and will always be a player who plays his best footy when he is behind the ball and it is also best for our side especially with our more ball users. DDont like Kosi rucking either. he actually isnt as good as Blake in the ruck and we lose his marking up forward and worst of all he gives away to m,any frees. At least up forward they are a long way from the oppositions goals. Have to stick with Blake and Kosi backing him up unless they play Archer.

Archer is along way from a ruckman as well. Unless they can put Lever on growth hormones Kosi and Blake are all we have. Agree Goddard is only a good forward when he surprises after running in he can't play man on man or he goes missing.

if it has to be done for the TEAM (if considered by Watters and Co.) it has to be.

Reckon I saw him take one contested mark in a "Grand Final" not long ago ...?
Jack Newnes happy to be a Saint !!!! PS and to hit a target !!!
Re: An IDEA for the Swans game !!
As a short term measure it has some merit IMO. Wilkes was pretty poor yesterday.
A forward line of Roo, BJ, Sippos/rotating mid, Terry, Saad and Milne has some appeal.
Remember the Freo game a couple of years ago - when Roo was out - he kicked 5 in that game.
Caveat - Needing Sammy Fisher back in other wise not a go-er.

BJ did OK at FF in a game v West Coast a few years ago. Kicked 4 goals in the 1st 20 minutes. Spent most of that time sprinting on & off the ground as he went off after each goal !!

Re: An IDEA for the Swans game !!
BJ can definately play FF, its whether you really want to lose his ball use around the ground? Think Kosi has to be No. 1 ruck and think Wilkes will be dropped. Maybe bring in Fisher and Gwilt and play Jimmy fwd?
Maybe this year?

Re: An IDEA for the Swans game !!
Been thinking the same thing re Archer - hate to admit it but I agree. With both Ben and Rhys down, it's the obvious choice. JBlake helps out but also goes back on one of their talls while Chips is still out and I reckon Arch is itching for a game. It might work if he rucks smart around the boundary and if he doesn't try and wrestle with the more experienced opponents. Maybe third man up with lenny or BJ around the stoppages...It's worth a try and it'll not only improve the kid, but he could be a revelation.plugger66 wrote:WinnersOnly wrote:Goddard to full forward is a good move - he us struggling around the ball!

Kosi's presence in the forward line and his ability to crash the packs will help the smalls. Kosi needs to play exclusively as FF to straighten up the forward entries and get the opposition defenders nervous when the ball comes in quick. As for BJ, he's probably suited more to CHF imo, and as a FF, I'm not sure he could handle the number one defender lining up on him and contesting the one-on-ones.

Re: An IDEA for the Swans game !!
Archer can't play unless you elevate him? Plus he's been played pretty much exclusively up forward this year in the vfl. Isn't tall enought to play in the ruck realistically.

Re: An IDEA for the Swans game !!
Exactly, he has been played as the full forward for Sandy and is something like 6th on the VFL goal kickers list.millarsaint wrote:Archer can't play unless you elevate him? Whats wrong with bringing Archer in to play the FF role and have Koz ruck? Ok, so maybe this set up wouldn't be our number one option with everyone fit, but with the lack of talls available it could be an option.

Re: An IDEA for the Swans game !!
You don't necessarily need a target man at FF.
Kosi must ruck as he is the only person we have who is capable of performing the role.
Blake is not a ruckman, can maybe help out around the ground on occasions, particularly in the back half but that is about it.
An alternative would be to implement a mobile forward structure with Roo and BJ playing between CHF and FF with the mosquito fleet around them.
Stretch them with movement rather than size. We have the ability to have some real pace up forward, use it.
Playing an average skilled key forward like Wilkes is just playing into the swans hands.

Re: An IDEA for the Swans game !!
Not complete madness. Could put GT's ruck theory to the test in the process. Gilbo could just get in the way and we could focus on sharking the hit-outs or going for the tackle.dragit wrote:Could Gilbert have a go in the ruck… taller than Blake, pretty aggressive…?
Or is that just madness?
Similar to the Japanese rugby team's approach to lineouts

Well after watching the Eagles game i reckon Blake goes better in the ruck than Kosi and Blake is replacable down back where as Kosi isnt really up forward.
