Wilkes should never play back
Ever. Ever. Ever
Anyone on this forum still holding on to the fantasy he is a versatile swing man who goes back and forward please stop the delusion.
Hes a fwd or nothing.
End of story.

That was plain to see during the pre-season Cup. Today simply enforces that reality.Con Gorozidis wrote:Ever. Ever. Ever

Re: Wilkes should never play back
Not sure why you limited your thread title to just "back".
Yes, he kicked a few goals against Melbourne but he is not AFL quality IMO. West Coast let him go...
He shouldn't have been drafted, but since he has he should only be in the team as injury cover. He's 26, has no discernible role to play and sadly not going to get any better - we should be developing a new player in his place. Why is Siposs dropped ahead of Wilkes?

Yep it was obvious. Not sure many thought otherwise. Not sure playing forward is the go either when you drop chest marks.

Someone had to go back. Am sure he'd rather be playing forward in front of his home crowd. Ideally with Gwilt and Fisher back he won't have to.

Coach had no other option. Will go down in history as a 3 game player with StK FC

Re: Wilkes should never play back
Complete dud. But, if we run out of players, someone has to make up the numbers.
Re: Wilkes should never play back
Wilkes stays now that Stanley is out. Provides that other tall option up forward when Kosi is in the ruck. Couldn't do anything about him going back tonight. Needed to out of necessity pure and simple.

Re: Wilkes should never play back
Simply nowhere near good enough......should only be considered for selection if we are decimated by injuries.
Re: Wilkes should never play back
Felt bad for him.
His debut game set him up a cult following, which was never going to end well. Nicknames like W-Train, BOG votes...
Should be considered good depth, not his fault that everyone expected too much of him.
Out for Gwilt or Fisher if ready, would rather Gilbert shifted forward in Stanleys absence.

Re: Wilkes should never play back
We really didn't have many other options. He was put down there I think to try and crash some packs and attempt to nulify one of the talls. Turned into a bit of a disaster for him though didn't it?
Re: Wilkes should never play back
Gilbert has a hard enough time disposing of the ball effectively! Would rather have Wilkes stay in and play deep forward.SainterK wrote:Felt bad for him.

Re: Wilkes should never play back
Is currently only getting a game because he is 194cm and has body size. It will be a test for the coaches this week - to keep him in would be an act of desperation not imagination.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Wilkes should never play back
I think we've all noted Wilkesy getting his hands on quite a few marks, but not holding on. It's got me wondering (from afar) if he has eyesight problems? Does anyone know if this is so??? Ta.
It's Dave, man. Will you open up? I got the stuff with me! -------Who?

Two absolute shockers back to back.
Let's not make that mistake again.

Can join Polo at Sandy for the rest of the year and then they can both go to the Ammos or wherever.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

Yes, unfortunately after Stanley. Kosi and Lever, he is the tallest player at the club.PJ wrote:Is currently only getting a game because he is 194cm and has body size. It will be a test for the coaches this week - to keep him in would be an act of desperation not imagination.
A sad reflection of past drafting!
