Love the way this kid goes about it. Tough, quick, strong in the air and can kick both feet. Makes the right decisions too.

Re: Tom Simpkin
Showing fantastic confidence and composure under pressure. He has a very similar defensive game to Max although he's more willing to go for a mark rather than spoil when the opportunity arises. Right now he's looking like a 10+ year full back.
Re: Tom Simpkin
Is very sound one on one.
Stats comparison: averages for 2012
Zac 12 disposals, 3.3 marks, 1.4 tackles, 0.9 frees against
Tom 13 disposals, 3.7 marks, 2.5 tackles, 1.0 frees against
We haven't missed Zac anywhere near as much as I thought we would.

Re: Tom Simpkin
Has improved out of sight on what we saw from last last year and I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't lost a single one on one contest for the whole year. Just amazing how often he gets a fist in or reads it well and marks it.

Re: Tom Simpkin
Think i might love this bloke. He is clean with his hands disposal and his thoughts. Runs hard. Nice timing. Good fist.
and Tough!
Not sure what they put in the water in Colac. Is it nails?

Re: Tom Simpkin
Great article on him in the Age yesterday, too. Very interesting that he's had really bad shin splints previously and that this last one was his first half decent pre-season, after a successful operation. Really looking forward to seeing how he goes once he gets a couple of pre-seasons into him! : http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/i ... 1yl4t.html

May as well call him Max.

Re: Tom Simpkin
You get many right and many wrong when you watch Sandy play. This is one that always looked like he would make it. Hasnt yet but certainly on the way. i know people will say should have played earlier but I reckon KPP need as much time to develop as possible. Especially the none star young players.

Re: Tom Simpkin
He plays such a pressure position where mistakes really stand out, like a very experienced player - not easy to do.
A great replacement for Zac, who I thought that we would miss a lot more. We are very fortunate to have him on board.

Re: Tom Simpkin
I mentioned it last night at the Brisbane Saints function. It is Maximus all over again but that aside gee he had a whale of a game for a 10 gamer. Looked composed and beat his opponent(s) regularly.mad saint guy wrote:Showing fantastic confidence and composure under pressure. Well bloody done.

You will see this happen
before you ever see it from these two Saint defenders

Lance or James??

Re: Tom Simpkin
Probably best not to get too far ahead of ourselves. Tom has played, including last night, just 8 games - 8! The pleasing thing is that he has improved over the short period, and kept his head high. I look forward to the next few years as he gains the same sort of body strength as Sam Fisher. Hopefully, they can play in the same side for a few years.

Re: Tom Simpkin
when I first saw him debut I think he played in the forward line (?) and my initial reaction was that he was too slow and made some silly decisions, and I remember thinking that he won't make it as an AFL player.
but he proved me wrong big time. loved his game last night. particularly the aggression and the niggle. doesn't take a backward step.
also looks a good mark and makes some smart decisions. he is definitely in our best 22 and will be there for 10 years +

If Dawson was in the team he would have taken Buddy last week where Simpkin didn't.
They don't play on the same players.
Having said that ........... gee this kid has really impressed me this year.

In the Age last week he said he has been on the list for 4 years from being a rookie. first in and last out. so good on him for working his backside off to get to this point so far!!!
