Why everyone hates Collingwood ????

Since the dawn of time there has been good and evil, love and hate, black and white, and the deep loathing of the Collingwood Football Club. But if you’ve been living under a rock your entire life, you may be asking yourself “what’s so bad about Collingwood?” To you, sir/madam, I implore you to crawl right back under that rock. If you’ve been living in 2012, you’ll know all about the hate – and the real truth is that you love it.
But why is it that the Magpies draw the ire of the entire football world?
Is it the coach, who has stepped into shoes the size of Aaron Sandilands – those of a man who left behind a winning culture and an era of success? --- NO
Is it the headline-magnet chairman who wears his heart on his sleeve to the point that he cries more during a Pies game then my girlfriend does when she’s watching The Notebook? --- NO
Is it the list of idiotic things their players have been caught doing over the past few years – a rap sheet that spans wider than the expanses of Patterson’s Stadium? --- NO
This certainly doesn’t help them, but alas this isn’t the reason we all dislike the boys in the black-and-white stripes.
The truth is there is just always one of ‘those teams’; as much as we need a team to barrack for it’s equally important to have a team to despise. Unfortunately for Collingwood, it’s them. Even before the days of the Colliwobbles (i.e. choking) we’ve always hated the black and white. In fairness to Pies supporters, and at the risk of committing heresy as a Saints supporter, the honest truth is that Collingwood are a good football side. Hate saying, Five grand-final appearances and a premiership in the past 10 years is more than a lot of teams can say for themselves.
But despite all of this, in the world of football-fandom, none of it matters.

The VFL started in 1897 with 8 teams and Richmond joined in 1908. In 1925, three new teams came in to make the total 12. Up until that stage, Fitzroy had been the most successful club, winning 7 flags. Geelong, like us, had won none, but that was to change for them in the first year of the 12 team competition. Alas, we had to wait another 41 years. Except for a point, we might still have been waiting.

I don't when "people" started to "hate" Collingwood, but it might have been around the time they won 4 straight, and quite soon after became the first club to notch ten flags. As it turned out, they won their last 3 over a period of 52 years, hardly domination. An abbot from a nearby monastery might have called it "class war", certainly most Collingwood players at the time were poor and Catholic, and abbot's were often trying to make mischief, generally at the beckoning of the local archbishop.

On the other hand, perhaps most sensible people don't like seeing things in black and white.

Personally, I have never hated Collingwood. After all, where would be be without them? (And they nearly gave again in 2010.)

That was a fair bit later on in the piece than I'm talking. Turn of the 20 th century we had already established a fairly crap reputation as cellar dwellers. I live in North Caulfield so know how many are around here. Auskick has plenty of little saints in this neck of the woods too.
