Yep. Saw him a few times for Sandy dragons last year. Thought he may be rookied but obviously missed out. Needs work and lets not be like we usually are. It is one game and people want to get him even though I doubt many if any have seen him play more than one or two games. Probably the same people who thought Sam Dunnell should be upgraded 4 weeks ago.

My thoughts on the game... Keep in mind that if anything happened on the far side of the ground opposite to the bench. Tis went unnoticed. Blame my eyes.

Ledger played well... His kicking although rushed as he win contested ball actually usually hits a target and aims for a contest. Kicked a couple of goals. One busted through a contested situation, kicked to Wilkes (I think) one on one, ball just went over and bounced through. 70m goal from the wing. Goes in hard, and runs out hard.

Ray. Did some nice things. Same player he is at AFL level... Took some nice grabs, kicking still the same.

Gwilt looks composed with the ball. Looks way above the leel although not performing above the level yet. Just getting through the game, getting used to the speed again and using his kicking skills.

Peake did better. Ran around.

I see what others have liked in Jackson Ferguson this year. Can run, can mark. Looks a great type.

I thought Winmar did well when needed off halfback. Great kick of the footy.

Ross a lot tougher than I first thought. Got a bit of the ball.

Wilkes did ok. Archer is a presence but doesn't take the ball first touch.

Markworth bobbed up in patches. Real exciting type.

Cripps played well. Three goals I think. Great kicking skills and not bad contested marking. Played HFF a bit.

Like how Cockie plays. Very tough.

I feel like Wilkes, Cockie... Being out of the elite level for a year or two makes a massive difference to fitness. Wilkes still looks like he could lose a few. My opinion of course and expected. You don't just get your elite body upon entering the doors of an AFL club.

Apparently was concentrating on cricket until recently. Believe I heard/read he was in the U19 Australian Team.

Anyway as you say, it's very early days yet.

Coleman is a good size 195, and moves well and seems to have good skill..... But our policy of not drafting any KPP's means we couldn't take him..... Not being nasty, but Coleman is about 5 times better than Lever.

Reiwoldt, trengove, Darling..... All too tall for us to draft them

Back on Sandy..... Coach is excellent, they have a few gun VFL players (Cook, Cockie) and a few ok ones in Shephard, Dowler and Hallahan.

Joined by a couple of fringe AFL experienced bodies Ray, Peake and Wilkes...... Complimented with some talented kids like ledger, Ross, Siposs, cripps and others....the rookies are doing well also

2007 there was a similar well performed VFL outfit...... With a similar looking team... Similarly it was Ross Lyons first year

yes along with Hutchy ryan and various support staff
and then the guy in the black puffy jacket that kept getting asked for signatures even to be put on Bombers jumpers
and Hamill, Shneids and Blakey- from where I could see.

3 rd on the ladder now
http://www.sportingpulse.com/comp_info. ... 0&a=LADDER

was also a guy in a green puffy jacket who left half way through the game so possiby didn't see Mcveigh have a good patch so he may not get back into the Bombers team next week

Let's mention Andreoli !

Theres not much of him but he does have a great left foot that can really penetrate. Played to advantage of half back. In the last quarter as the game opened up some, he hit a target strongly 50m away. On kicking ability score, probably similar to Crocker but he played Development game today.

Ferguson - the backline wasn't under a heap of pressure but he played well. Made 2 key turnovers in the 2nd q, one kicking in straight to man when attenmpting short pass. Kicking looks 'the' issue. Positives as usual he is lightning quick (match race with Saad anyone?), good below his knees and agility is strong for a tall player. In last quarter, players on bench yelled to block for Sandy player - obvious still that education element in his development.

Ray - was really impressed, very hard at it, took some good contested marks and decision making was a lot better. He will always have the 'Gram floater' element with his kicking but really solid today.

Ledger - I had to think about this why he hasn't played for the Saints in 2012. Others may know better but all i could come up with was he comes off the ground pretty distressed and my query is whether the coaches think he can sustain the effort? Elsewise you have a little Lenny clone diving headlong into packs, thrusting the ball forward and getting clearances all day. Kicking isn't always pinpoint but he showed with a first quarter goal swinging onto left and kicking it under pressure that he has Saints written all over him.

Cook - this bloke can play and being in the system previously (Adelaide) he has a very hard-at-it approach while being very skilled. Kicked 2, missed one after barging through a pack. One of goals followed a speccy mcgee mark. Kicking is his knock, but he could be rookied no doubt.

Coleman - was playing development a few weeks back so really coming on. Very tall, well built and great kick. Knows where the goals are, slotted one off the ground. Not sure on agility side of game but a real target to kick to and more upside.

Ross - Seb was on early and set the game up. Faded slightly. By early in the 2nd quarter had 4 clearances and set up 2 goals. His goal that he kicked was full of class, baulked one opponent and the words of Watters about 'similar to Pendlebury' started ringing again. Seems to have plenty of time with the ball. Did make a few mistakes/turnovers which are to be expected with 1st year players. Very in and under player but damaging if gets free.

Cripps - key factor was that he spent most of the day with trainers, complaining lower back injury. Didn't look comfortable when on, kicked 3 goals and was a class above for short cameos. I got feeling that his body may not be sound enough for AFL - might explain why he is used as sub last year so much and has been a bit disappointing in full games. Must be doubtful to get in based on an injury game today.

Gwilt - played well, used ball to advantage. Looked like 1 more game for Sandy to get "real" touch might be the go, dosen't look rock hard just yet. The Fisher factor may change that. Came off every quarter but probably played 85% game time.

Markworth - played half forward, took good mark and another passage kicked screw goal. Looks exciting and can float across ground for a tall player. Main thought today was getting a feel for that level of footy. Has baulked up, especially legs. Seaford gym must be working.

Peake - came into a bit later, did a few kick outs but i thought early was not highly influencing. Some errant kicks among his possessions.

Shenton - helped set up one goal, plays deep forward but not noticeable.

Wilkes - played full forward all day and competed well in contests. Can lead up ground too. Didn't beat down the door on a day that favoured talls. Probably upstaged by Coleman up forward.

Winmar - good intensity off half back, did okay. Just waiting for it to all click, hopefully it happens.

Curren - good pace and kicking okay today. Can run and carry with ball and did some work in middle. Encouraged by coaches at 1/4 time to keep going following "all the work you did last November" Provides a spark with approach to the footy.

Dunnell - great overhead and good kicking ability. Played HF and sometime HB. Improvement may come in strength and endurance but can really play.

Newnes - seems sure with the footy, kicking skills superior to other Sandy players. Still looks very young out there!

Ps ledger burst through on a handball receive and kicked to a forward one on one and it bounced through. No shorter than 70m though!
How good was that?
The Bombers had been looking dangerous for most of the 3rd quarter - definitely outplaying us but couldn't get it on the board.
That goal stabilised things and got us back on top.

Great writeup mate. Looks like Ray, Ledger and Ross will be vying for a spot if the opportunity arrises. Gwilt also progressing nicely is a plus.

Cripps hurt his back in the first ten minutes. Spent time with the physios each quarter and did well to run the game out and kick 3 goals.

Ledger was much more prominent this week. Not far off a call up if he can repeat it next week.

Ferguson is very good apart from the occasional brain fade giving goals away.

Gwilt was good, but needs at least another week at this level.

Wilkes was very disappointing, has it all to play for and went missing.

Peake is well and truly past his, will never get another senior game.

Ray is busting his gut to get back. Not sure he's in Scotts plans.

Winmar played his best game for the year, but sat out most of the last quarter.
