anyhoo.
I'm happy with McEvoy. Stanley will never be a good ruckman.

The problem is big blokes take so long to mature. Jamar has been playing since 2003, but only became a good player in 2010. There are good ones out there, but who are they?

Stanley is about 21 years old and you have just said Jamar took 7 years to come good. Dont tell me you could see that happening because many of my Melbourne mates couldnt.

If I was recruiting a ruckman I would be focusing either Jonathon Ceglar or Witts, Jarrod. From what I hear both have the potential to be very good players and they seem to have reasonably young ruckman in front of them. Keep loking towards the future

sounds reasonable but pies will probably keep witts and try to offload wood and/or mcnamara...
speaking of ruckmen . whatever happened to patto? not promoted by the hawks?

Nope!

You think Stanley will be a good ruckman in 2016?

Heres a novel idea how about we go out and source our own ruckman rather than trying to grab one from another team.

I can't see how you can predict that a player who looks ok at 21...could not be a good ruckman at 28.

There have been many many ruckman who did not look that flash ay 21....who at 28 became match winners.

Jolly for example did not look that flash in his younger years...but in his last years at the Swans and his first at the Pies was very good.

Anyway...right here and no he is very useful as a key forward that can play relief ruck.

Developing a young ruckman with hopes of him being decent at 28 is a waste of time. Just go out and grab a 28 year old from the ammies if thats the case.

Its pretty obvious that Scott made the comment in the emotional aftermath of finding out Macca was out for a month.
And that comment set off a frenzy on SS.
Lets take a deep breath. The only available and affordable ruckmen will be hacks. And our 2 guys (macca and stanley) are developing very nicely.

Yep but when Mac is out we have some big issues. Tonights game and the next four weeks will prove this. I think Giles is a perfect option. We should really look at getting him if we can. Jodi was good tonight but he can't go around for more than one more year

Should've taken MacCauley- it's called list management

If not him, anyone…

I can't believe that an AFL club who has intentions of playing finals does not have adequate backup for the ruck?
Kosi is the most injury/suspension prone player on our list, and Blake was redrafted as a backup defender mainly to knotch up his 200th…

If this was a normal business, you would sack the person responsible - the list manager.

We didn't even draft an up and coming ruckmen - Lever is too short and is considered a KPP…

It's as if we are premeditatively tanking. Most clubs have at least 4 on the list, Hawthorn have 6. We have 1.

The next month is going to get very, very ugly…

As Barks would say SACK THE BOARD!!!

We all have a good laugh at Pattison…

But he would play next week if he was on our list.

We clearly won the clearances vs Freo with 30 less hitouts.
I think we won the clearances again last night even with Blake rucking.
Ruckmen are only as good as the clearance players as most of their hitouts go nowhere and/or advantage the opposition- and the good news is we have the clearance players.
Our problem is our field kicking and we don't have enough skilled playmakers who combine compared with the stronger teams.
So we need to spend our salary cap chasing the Riolis and other skilled matchwinners/playmakers of the world etc.. not ruckmen who are nothing without their clearance players.

Perhaps if we'd broken even in the hitouts, we'd have won the match…?
just sayin'

Freo's 30 plus hitout advantage amounted to no advantage at all - whereas it was their skilled playmakers who combined and spread and ran in numbers, that's what won them the game in the second half and made the difference.

That what we need... skilled playmakers who can combine and no more (or other) ruckmen/schmuckmen, please(maybe if I ask kindly ?) .

Let's see how well we go 'sharking' next week against 2 good ruckmen, Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson etc

It'll largely depend on how well Judd and co. clear (shark off us too and shark the misdirected hitouts from their own ruckmen) vs our own clearance players.
The ruckmen (even the best) just manage to the hit the ball into general traffic mostly and only occasionally get one right here and there. We won't mention the misdirected hitouts that disadvantage their team - as there's no stat for that (I'd love to see a " hitout to disadvantage "stat ,but anyway we can use our eyes for that),

Lever is too short  listed at 200cm perhaps you mean Staley.

No I meant Lever, listed as 198 on the saints website…

I just remember reading an interview post draft, he was saying how he had been asked to play ruck which he didn't enjoy and that it wasn't his position.
