Watters still learning

Sub call not final: AFL

AFL OPERATIONS manager Adrian Anderson says clubs can alter the paperwork required to activate their substitute, even after forms have been lodged.

St Kilda coach Scott Watters admitted he made a mistake when subbing in-form forward Beau Wilkes out of the game on Saturday night.

To Watters' knowledge, once the paperwork was handed to the AFL official on interchange duties the decision to sub a certain player out of the game could not be reversed.

But Anderson revealed that was not the case and new paperwork could be lodged even if the other forms had been locked away.

"You can change your substitute even after the paperwork has been lodged and that has happened on quite a few occasions," he told 3AW on Sunday.

I'm not referring to this but he's still doing his apprentership and he will need at least two full seasons to get into the swing of AFL coaching.

not sure how much you have to learn to know the sub rules if you are a senior AFL coach and other clubs have been changing subs AFTER lodging paperwork already??????

There needs to be some fessing up to mistakes - first of all he says it was a tweaked hammy then he says it was lodged paperwork... which when you think about it makes no sense at all as it wouldn't accommodate unexpected injuries...so I ask you coach - what was it??!

Forgive watters not knowing  but FFS somebody who works on the bench should know all the F@#$ing rules .
In the last couple of years , we've given away many frees due to incorrect interchanges and d@#$head runners getting in the way of players on-field .
Does the club have a bunch of clowns running the show down on the sidelines ?

Good on Watters for admitting it was a stuff up.

So now I assume Wilkes is not injured and right to go this week?
Be interesting selection...need to stretch Hawks...
