Re: ANZAC Day Footy
If you don't like it - don't watch it.
I don't. If enough join me then the ratings take a hit and eventually the afl will have to change it.
If people whine and still watch it, it will continue, and fair enough...unfortunately.

Coles supermarket are selling packets of chips in bags that are designed like the Essendon or Collingwood jumper with some reference to the Anzacs on them. I didn't look to closely as it made me feel a little bit ill. Is their no end to the hype over these 2 teams & this game?

It looks like we're playing next year.
THE Brisbane Lions have emerged as the front-runners to travel to New Zealand next season to take on St Kilda as part of an Anzac Day double-header which last night received the thumbs up from Collingwood president Eddie McGuire.

A night game with a 8.10pm start would be 6.10pm in Melbourne time which follows on perfectly straight after the Pies game. Should rate very well on TV. Let's hope Fox covers so it's in HD!!!

Nettlefold said on friday they are hopeful of playing there as early as next year but there is still lot work to be done.kosifantutti wrote:It looks like we're playing next year.

Re: ANZAC Day Footy
The two best victorian teams from the previous year should play.
We should have been able to maximise the exposure it gets to help us grow in marketing St Kilda, while we were on top.

I remember you Enrico complaining about no football on Good Friday, which of course your entitled too and I actually agree the AFL could market a big Friday night game in conjunction with RCH Good Friday appeal.
However, after 18 odd years of the same thing every Anzac Day, I prefer the Good Friday fixture to todays!

A night game on a midweek Anzac Day mightn't be a good option, with the next day being school and work.saintspremiers wrote:I couldn't give a flying faark what Eddie thinks TBH.kosifantutti wrote:It looks like we're playing next year.

Perhaps on those occasions, the game could start at noon local time?

The only thing that worries me about Good Friday Footy is that Eddie will get his grubby paws on it before anyone else and we all know that once Collingwood are involved and their is a profit to be made, it will never be taken from them !!

It is about ALL the inequities in the Draw.
For our competition to have credibility, the Draw must be fair.
With all the blockbusters, derbies, permanent fixtures, teams that always play each other twice, teams that always play on certain dates etc.
... the whole thing is a farce.
No other senior competition in the sporting world would have such inbuilt biaises.
At best it is just amateurish.
At worst it is corrupt.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

You go on and on about this but surely if 2 sides are in a state they must play each other twice a year. And the draw will always be unfair if you have 18 sides into 22 rounds. You as well get as much money into the game by having a fixture because anyway you do it it will be unfair. Id rather every side survive and have blockbusters, derbies and so on that have a draw that is still unfair but we lose clubs because there is much less money in the game.

Stevie a noon local time start is 2pm Melbourne time which clashes with the Anzac Day Eddiefest.
Maybe a night game on Anzac Day Eve ie. 24 April? A 6pm Melbourne start would work well also.

How old are you? Bumchum. Last heard that in grade 6. I dont care who plays Anzac Day but if you are going to sure it every club must. What a great day it will be when Port Adelaide play GWS on Anzac day.

PERSPECTIVE:
ANZAC Day commerations are a time for reflection. ANZAC Day footy is a Ca$h grab for the AFL and two of its favorite clubs !!

Re: ANZAC Day Footy
No, NZ is 2 hours ahead of us. So noon kickoff there is 10 am here. Plenty of time to show the Sts game then segue into filth/bummers. That also avoids the cliched per-game guff which I am avoiding right nowsaintspremiers wrote:Stevie a noon local time start is 2pm Melbourne time which clashes with the Anzac Day Eddiefest.

Re: ANZAC Day Footy
Some talk about $ and Blockbusters being necessary to keep the competition afloat.
But consider a club like North.
They are struggling for $, fans and sponsorship.
Yes having blockbuster featuring Collingwood and 70,000 fans every third week does pull in revenue (though most probably have season tickets).
In that sense the revenue North receives under the distribution system helps keep them afloat.
BUT
Ultimately if North aren't ever featuring in these big matches, then
- their exposore continues to drop
- their membership continues to drop
- their reliance on AFL handouts continues to grow.
How does that help create a healthy competition?
But
If matches on key dates and timeslots are shared on a rotated basis - i.e. a FAIR basis
then clubs like North have a much better chance of building their membership and standing on their own two feet.
** For North you can substitute Footscray, Melbourne (and perhaps StKilda in a few years)

Re: ANZAC Day Footy
Sorry but the money from TV keeps the competition going. They want and expect big games for the huge amount they play and fair enough. That is what keeps the poorer sides going. Because memberships are increasing clubs are receiving less and less revenue from general admission.Enrico_Misso wrote:Some talk about $ and Blockbusters being necessary to keep the competition afloat.
