Beau Wilkes should come in this week
Beau Wilkes should come straight back in this week because he had a very great performance in the VFL kicking 5 goals in a losing side by under a goal.
So if Beau Wilkes should come straight back in who does he come in for and what position should he play in the backline or the forward line ?
My Thoughts - In: Beau Wilkes Out: J.Newnes
And that I would play Beau Wilkes in both postions 2 quarters in each position to see what position he is more suited playing in.

It's great that Beau has been doing well at Sandy. However, he is cover for the Talls - in particular Roo, Kosi and Stanley. And all of them are combining well in the forward line at present. Playing Beau as well as these guys would leave us overbalanced with Talls.

Yeah it is great that Wilkes is going well for Sandy but I would give him a game to decide if he should play permantely or not.

He needs to keep kicking goals for Sandy and if he does, his chance will come.coopergrech wrote:Yeah it is great that Wilkes is going well for Sandy but I would give him a game to decide if he should play permantely or not.

I would be very disappointed if Jack got dropped. He'll be good for us against the dogs and I would leave him in.
Beau is a plodder and at pick 65 he is cheap insurance for a tall going down.

welcome to the forum beau
I love you - but with kosi, roo and stanley i think u should focus on kicking goals in the vfl for now.
your time will come buddy. if one of those three (or big mac) go down you will get a game champ.

Re: Beau Wilkes should come in this week
If he keeps getting it done in the VFL it will certainly put the spotlight on Kosi's performances in the seniors, though, unless they go up a notch on his last couple of years output, I imagine. With Stanley giving us another decent to good option in the ruck at the moment (and improving), it pretty much all comes down to Kosi's output in the forward line and I'm wondering how much better he'd be up there than Wilkes, if at all, especially as Kosi has the habit in recent times of starting matches well and then disappearing right out of them for the last 2-3 quarters. If that continues you'd have to wonder how much longer that will be tolerated, if Wilkes is going well in the VFL. On the other hand, if Kosi continues to have games where he starts really well, but then drifts out of them, he might end up being the one subbed out of them. Then we'll get what's left of the "good Kosi" and not so much of the "not much value Kosi" and add a lot more run to our team for the end of the game.
I haven't seen Wilkes play since the NAB Cup, so for those that have seen him since, what is he like in contested marking situations, like one-on-one body contests, as in recent years Kosi has been outbodied and often outmarked in those far too often. Does Wilkes hold his ground better, or it much the same? And what is Wilkes defensive pressure like? Is he of much value when it hits the ground, or with tackling and chasing? Even if he doesn't take Kosi's spot at any stage this year, he still looks to be just about our only option if Kosi happened to retire at the end of it, or if he or Roo went down injured, or whatever.
I know some will say he's just a "plodder", but I know for a fact that a huge number out there in the AFL community also think the same of Kosi and we still think he has value enough to keep playing him, so maybe Wilkes will be of enough value at some stage too.

Re: Beau Wilkes should come in this week
I saw him against Box Hill and his contested marking/strength/ground holding was excellent.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:I haven't seen Wilkes play since the NAB Cup, so for those that have seen him since, what is he like in contested marking situations, like one-on-one body contests, as in recent years Kosi has been outbodied and often outmarked in those far too often.
Though obviously the AFL is a much tougher comp!
In hindsight last week was the week to play him.
The way the modern game is we should be resting key players, particularly older key players, like Roo, Lenny and BJ.
So whenever we play the Herald-Scum "Gimmies" we should rest these guys and give some of the back-up players or youngsters a go.
That way if we suffer an injury and need to bring Wilkes etc. in to cover they will be more likely to step straight in and not be overawed or unprepared for the tempo change.

No he shouldnt come in and especially for Newnes. There is thing called team balance and if Wilkes came in our balance would be like the Titanic.

We won't be doing anything to sacrifice leg speed this week.
Wilkes will arrive when Kosi gets hurt or gets suspended. One or other will happen if history is any guide.
