Were we kicking with the breeze that quarter?

great to see curren and ferg in the best for sandy.
ferg really is the great white hope as a key defender.
and wilkes is good insurance if roo or kosi go down.

Those bests are surprisingly accurate....really disappointing performance by Sandy..

Did see an awesome hip n shoulder two meters in front of me.....after Cockie delivered it, I heard the wind dispell from the coburg player and he just said 'oh f***' and went wobbly for 5 minutes. Huge hit.

Some really disappointing performances from several players today
Archer, Peake, DunnellMinchington, Shenton were all poor
Ray just OK
Saad did a few good things but was generally average
Siposs did some classy stuff, had some quiet patches....played on the wing mainly
Ferguson played very well, Curran played very well, Wilkes played well and took a number of huge contested grabs
Andreoli was fair, Crocker was fair

Cook, Cockie, Irving are Sandys best players
Though a lad called Hamish Shephard was excellent
And Dowler played well down back

Glad people didnt go early on gun players just as they shouldnt on players that are past it. As the expression is just hold your powder. I still believe that the best long term prospect of our seconds players is Ferg but lets just give them all a chance whether good or bad.

peake really isnt building a good case to be called back up into the seniors. doesnt look good for him. at 29 he cant afford to be spending so much time in the vfl

Did Saad get reported?
What did he do?
Will he go?

I attended for just over half the Sandy game...and i must have been standing next to BigMart cos I was also 2 metres from the Cockie hip n shoulder, I'm still feeling it now!

Coburg certainly came to play, had some bigger bodies and ran strongly off half back. It was a close contest all day with Sandy struggling to match the intensity (or so it seemed)

A rundown of a few Saints players;
Wilkes - played deep forward and took some strong contested marks. Proved a focal point with 5 goals.

Curren - this guy is a ball magnet. Played mid and HBF and really finds it. Good in close, i'd suggest his kicking is the only question mark, its not bad, its just not terribly pinpoint. I find it hard to see how he won't make the senior list.

Sipposs - showed his class a few times and did a few blunders to complete the day. Typically there is a bit of everything thrown up. Showed no signs of the knee injury from last week, moved freely. Sipa was caught holding the ball once and missed a tackle he had to hang on to. However he did some classy things from a wing. Seems to be suited up the ground, just needs to work on his 'team play'. i.e - gets success on the first 2 baulks and then tackled on the 3rd.

Minchington - I didn't mind his game (the 1/2 i saw) Pretty hard at it and played half back. Set up a goal in the 3rd and has some subtle skills under pressure. It will be a good to see how he develops as the season goes on. Also noted he is a well developed.

Ferguson - Good effort to be in the best, he is very quick and has good agility to boot. The Ferg is pretty fine still and really needs another season to be a key position possibility. But there is plenty to work with.

Saad - spent time forward and on wing. Just a game.

Crocker - off half back, Croc is still slight and needs more time to develop his frame. Has a great left foot though.

Archer - I would really like to see Arch make it, but as has been discussed - in the ruck he has no leap to speak of and therefore the reliance comes on him being a Key position player. Tried forward today as well as ruck, but largely ineffectual up forward. Struggles at ground level.

Andreoli - ran off half back though spent a good deal of time on bench. good left foot mostly accumulting uncontested ball.

Shenton - played forward - had little impact.

Ray - got the ball okay but some of his turnovers were soft and a little bit too common. One i saw resulted in a goal to Coburg when he chose to kick 20 metres and the ball was intercepted.

Peake - not highly noticeable for mine.

Seb Ross - left him till last. Seemed to have little impact as a result of a heavily strapped left knee. Played as a mid and was tagged and didnt carry himself very well with body language. Has been racking them up in the VFL so this was an off week but he never really was in the game, especially in spirit. It was interesting how Sippa rebounded from injury this week as a 2nd year player and Seb Ross looked a little lost with a bit of durress as a 1st year player.

Dunnell - I didn't take great note of number 38. But he moves well for his size - light frame though.

I'm looking forward to seeing and reporting on a full game when the Saints game doesn't clash!

The fact that Shenton broke a finger in the first quarter might have hampered him a tad.
Minch hurt his calf in the second quarter.
Saad may have a busted rib.

The captain did a knee (medial ligament).

The bench was like a scene from MASH for the first half. Pretty good effort all round I'd say.

Think you'll find it was Michael Lourey that did his knee not Dowler. Well unless he also did one then that's incredibly unlucky that 2 guys did it on same day!!

Not good enough to just accept you're having a bad day, we're going to sit the ball on you're head at every opportunity and you need to give us a contest, understand that, a contest.....verbatim.
