Player academy at work?
giving young players a sense of the game and what's needed
through Sandy connection
"Coleman spent time over the pre-season with Zebras coach Simon McPhee working on the defensive side of his game.
"Before this season, I haven't got into much depth about the defensive part of football and structures," he said.
"He [McPhee] has been really helpful with telling me where to run. There's been a high emphasis on work rate and defensive football, instead of just trying to kick goals which I've tried to for most of my life …
After battling glandular fever throughout the pre-season, Coleman has largely impressed, after jumping back up to 95 kilograms, in a bid to be stronger. He plays as the 23rd player - a rule that that helped TAC Cup-listed players in the VFL - and will provide a focal point up forward alongside Sam Dunell.

Is Gary Ayres still going to be acadamy director? Why has this poition not been filled? What's the point if no one is running it? What's going on?

I think he is it this year but they will appoint someone next year. Could have run out of money.

Dont worry i already have. Just ask Brent Cowell, Ed McDonell, Chris Oliver and Justin Sweeney. If it wasnt for me their careers would be over.

Re: Player academy at work?
Just wondering if there's been any advance on the Academy Director, which according to the Saints website is still vacant.
Does anyone know if they still plan to fill the position, or have any news regarding this?

Re: Player academy at work?
I would have thought that the academy would have been for St Kilda players which cOleman is not.
So would this be more the sandi coach at work rather than the academy?

Re: Player academy at work?
I hope we seriously look into rookie listing Coleman at the end of this year, focusing on footy over Cricket full time and playing against men seems to have really fast tracked his development. He's right under our noses so wouldn't be surprised to see us pick him up, looks a potential gun and addresses a need in KP height. Would still be a few years off contributing at AFL level, but with the academy working its magic could be a good replacement for the Roo/Kosi combo along with Rhys.
oh when the saints

Re: Player academy at work?
I heard Maxwell saying that when he was first at the pies he trained once with the seniors and the rest was at Williamstown. Integrating the two seems so logical you can't believe it took so long.
