Least emotion ever for round 1?
Anyone else feeling the same?
I'm excited footy is back, but don't think I've ever felt as detached to the saints as this. Hate to be negative going into round 1,but it's just the way I feel.
Start of 2010 was weird, didn't look forward to the home and away season at all, just wanted to fast forward to september for vengance.
Start of last year I'd had enough of the hurt, but was still hopeful we could go again somehow.
This year,I feel nothing. I have zero expectations of us contending, and if we slide I'm not sure I will be too upset.

I am just happy Footy is back. Dont have high expectations for this year. But also excited to see how our kids go and look to the future.
Bit like you in 2010, just wanted September to come. Last year i had a feeling we woud drop. Ill be leaving Round 9 till a week before Grand Final so i just want to get as much footy into me as possible.

Re: Least emotion ever for round 1?
Completely agree.
Zero expectation.
Zero hope.
Zero passion.
Its sad in a way because I love footy (the last season and so far this season, I've actually shamefully been more excited at non-St Kilda games) but in another refreshing because I can focus on more important things such as my family and stuff.
Also, it is only Friday night - I'm sure I'll feel differently about the whole thing at about 4:40PM on Sunday arvo.

Must admit - twilight zone in Adelaide not on TV against Port - doesn't get the adrenalin pumping.
But by Sunday I will be pretty pumped and nervous.

Re: Least emotion ever for round 1?
Pretty much agree with the OP. I used to virtually count down the days till our first match, over summer, but this summer I barely gave the club a thought. I guess once you've been at/near the top it's hard to get excited about a lot of the regular season games, as you know they just won't have that same feel and excitement of a big final.
I feel like I almost have to pump myself up to get into it, but hopefully it will be easier come Sunday, especialy if Milera starts ripping it up!

First game at home would be different for me, but understand sentiments above just looking forward to the real thing.

Re: Least emotion ever for round 1?
The AFL screwed up in making the NAB invisible so the season proper didn't get the usual foreplay to get us excited. Now we have the twilight zone games to contend with. we will get up when we get to see them.

Don't care what time we play next week or who we play.
I'm just excited about physically being at a game after more than 6 months.
I AM pumped

Re: Least emotion ever for round 1?
Maybe less emotion leading into round 1 is a sign of maturity as a club and by extension the supporters.
I remember the old days looking forward to how many goals Plugger kicked or what "hangers" Barks took or Mad Dog biffing somebody.(game results irrelevant)
The foundations laid by Sheldon and built on by his successors have to some degree set us up as a reasonably succesful club and expectations have risen to match.
As much as I was never a fan of Lyon's style, we were never going to really get flogged playing that style.
With a new coach/game-plan we must temper the excitement of a more attacking style with the fear of the unknown.
Our relative success of the past 8 or so years leaves us in dread of a return to the bad old days.

Re: Least emotion ever for round 1?
I feel the same.
This would be the first year in decades whereby I haven't attend any pre-season games or training.
I haven't even bothered to put my membership lanyard together yet, although the 2012 car sticker is in place but with the split round 1 and us playing the last game of the round in far off Adelaide and not a dead set certainty for a victory, I look to Round 2 to the true kick off game for the Saints.

I've never seen so much footy(have foxtel) as I have this pre season, and heard more footy talk, watched more footy shows. I am excited by it's return, today is like xmas day..
Just not excited to watch us play,I guess a product of several reasons- having heart ripped out in consecutive years, our eye sore gameplan under Lyon, our lack of decent youth, and an uninspiring pre season. Once upon a time I couldn't go 5 minutes without thinking about the saints game that week, especially round 1. Hopefully it changes with some unexpected promise shown over the next few weeks

Well one of those at least has improved, they were good boys this year.
Never know your luck on the other two

Re: Least emotion ever for round 1?
Agree in regards to the players. I know it's there job and they are paid very well to do so,but they weren't human if they weren't demoralised after 2009,then to top it off lose in a replay to the filth the following year. You couldn't think of a worse case scenario to go through in the football world,everplugger66 wrote:AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:Pretty much agree with the OP.
