Why don't you wait until he gets a real game to see how he goes so I wouldn't be writing anyone off yet.Con Gorozidis wrote:Wilkes = back up FF or nothing.

Re: Beau Wilkes
I know it's robbing Peter to pay Paul but if we do start getting shredded by talls, like everyone is predicting, we may have no alternitive but to send Roo down back.Kosi to CHF, Wilkes to FF.I'm not sure even this would work but the cupboard's a bit bare at the moment. Hopefully our midfield will make all of this a non issue and our backline can string up a couple of hammocks in the opposition goal posts and watch the game like everyone else.

Maybe he will somehow pop out of the flower garden as a good defender. Odds are very very slim.

Re: Beau Wilkes
Don't know why Kosi is guaranteed a game.
Huge disappointment for 10 years.
Wouldn't lose any sleep to hear that Wilkes was playing KPF in place of Kosi. Play Stanley as well to relieve McEvoy.

He can't wait, already started 2 threads on him - and taken any opportunity to declare 'end of discussion' Wilkes can only play forward if at all - season hasn't even started yetSaintPav wrote:Why don't you wait until he gets a real game to see how he goes so I wouldn't be writing anyone off yet.Con Gorozidis wrote:Wilkes = back up FF or nothing.

Re: Beau Wilkes
At the moment he would be sure to get a game because he's looked the best he has in ages in our games so far this season. Has been the only one looking like taking a strong overhead mark up forward.Gershwin wrote:Don't know why Kosi is guaranteed a game.

Having said that, if Wilkes continues to do well up forward and hopefully improves on what he's doing at the moment and Kosi drops off, plus Rhys does well supporting Mac in the ruck, then you could certainly make a case for Wilkes playing instead of Kosi.
As for the last 10 years, Kosi was flying until injuries derailed his career, namely missing the majority of a season with a fractured skull, that had him fainting and all sorts of s***. Unless you've been through that sort of s*** yourself, plus all the other injuries he's had, I don't think you're in a position to be trashing his output for us. I'd suggest he's done the best he knew how to do under the circumstances. He simply isn't who he was before all those injuries, and certainly not who he looked like being at this stage in his career (before he got those injuries). Just like Goose, X Clarke and Luke Ball. Serious injuries can derail a career, whether we like it or not. Now, he is not what he almost certainly would have been, or what we hoped he would be, but he's still played some good footy for us and until there's a legitimately better option, I dare say he'll continue to get a game.
YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR.

Re: Beau Wilkes
If WILKES Gets going up forward it will give the coaches an otpion of playing one of our other tall forwards down back when our defence are stretched. To be honest Kosi would be the perfect man to fill that role.

Re: Beau Wilkes
Yep that's right, go to the extreme, who compared Wilkes to Scarlett and Glass? Some folks are saying as the team lost a tall backman, they drafted a tall who can play back or forward - he played FB at WC Eagles and FB/FF in the WAFL.....Con Gorozidis wrote:ok suit yourselves! wilkes might be the next matty scarlett and is better than darren glass. happy now?MCG-Unit wrote:He can't wait, already started 2 threads on him - and taken any opportunity to declare 'end of discussion' Wilkes can only play forward if at all - season hasn't even started yetSaintPav wrote:

Why bump the thread after a week, to say 'I told you so', and 'forward or nothing, end of discussion'

Not even a quality defender. We are a Zac Dawson type down. Not dissing Zac, but like it or not, he leaves a big fat hole in our defense.
The bigs at WCE and Collingwood showed what is going to happen to our defence this season if an opposition get a fair run at clearances, which is right on the cards as we are thin on ruckmen.
The good news about the kids at the Zebra's on the Weekened has papered over the cracks. We look ordinary at stoppages and undermanned down back.
Lance or James??
