... we are gonna have to go back to go fwd.....sadly for us and Watters it will be at the expense of time that our current top end dont have.
.finally ... some sense.

... and as usual , we are a year late getting started.
Pull the other one. A year late??? Lyon blooded 8 kids last year - equal 4th most of any side!
Without Lenny - and with less than half the number one coaches we have today - we still ended up in 6th position.
There is absolutely no excuse for "going back to go forward".
We are in a much better position this year than we were last.
Spot on C2S. Lyon is gone. Maybe the kids will get a real crack at it this year and not the token one a few got last year.
Your stats mean nothing. Just like his winnig %. He walked into a great finals playing side.

"My stats" mean nothing? They mean nothing to you mate, because they don't suit your argument.

Why do you reckon we have started up the acadamy? What has the club decided we are struggling with? DEVELOPMENT.

It's not only my arguement. Lyon's record in developing kids is average at best. Last year was too late. We needed improvement in at least one of our kids in 2009 and 2010 just like Collingwood and Geelong have had in the past few years. Might have made the difference. Mini and Eddy were preferred to the kids. If you don't blame Lyon thats fine. Tell us who is to blame. He was in charge wasn't he. Look at Geelongs kids. A few made significant impact in the big one last year.

Stop making excuses for him. Look at the big picture. He nearly got us there, but just missed out. Great effort. But he did it without looking to the future. He left us an old and over paid list with hardly any young players looking at breaking into the side.

Geelong, Hawthorn and Collingwood don't have our problem. Why? Lyon is a very good coach and did a great job nearly getting us there. He also has flaws. You and a few others just wont admit it.

Lyon was appointed to coach; the Board and CEO to fund the football department.
Lyon was, as you say, a great coach. But the admin he worked with were incompetent.
Lyon continually impressed upon the Board that our spending on Recruitment and Development was sub-AFL standard; that it was amongst the worst in the League and had to be remedied urgently.
They have finally listened and executed - with the help of AFL handouts to the tune of $2 million.

Why do Geelong, Collingwood and Hawthorn not have our problem?
Because their Presidents and CEOs know what it takes to run a successful club and regularly win premierships.
Ours needed Lyon to tell them what was needed and the AFL to give them the money to do it.
Let's bless these gifts and move on.
