New Game Plan
Looking forward to see what hints of a new game plan we see tonight. It could be argued that the pre season isn't a great place to look for hints but Watters was quoted in yesterday's Age as saying:
“There's a number of different objectives you're trying to meet,” he told the club website yesterday. “You want to see some things you've been working on in training start to filter through, see how the players react and how changes potentially to the game plan hold up under heightened pressure.”
so I'm expecting to see some new trends of interest.
I'm tipping:
*more of the same full team defence, perhaps enhanced with the frenetic Collingwood energy,
*a more seat of the pants, unpredictable and aggressive movement forwards when we gain possession
*some form of perpetual forward line rotation, usually with 3 talls and but a less predictable set up.
Interested in your thoughts, both before and after..

Re: New Game Plan
I think in our forward play we will see a bit of less of the "kick it to roo" style and go for the best option (if it isn't roo). For that to happen it will depend on quick movement through the middle of the ground, rather than out to the flanks and the chance for the opposition defence to regroup. Seeing Kosi and Stanley in one-on-one contests will indicate if we are trying to change our style. Looking forward to it.

Re: New Game Plan
Stand twenty metres off your man and hope they kick it straight to you. Our usual poor disposal experts did not let us down. Lenny was the best by a mile. Tom Ledger looks good and so did Seb Ross. Other than that, we have it all to do against Geelong.

Re: New Game Plan
Thought in the second game we moved the ball a lot like Collingwood...
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!
Re: New Game Plan
First game everyone seemed to kick the ball so it landed about 25 metres out from goal, it wasn't working well, did anyone else notice that?
Second game everyone seemed to be under instructions to have a ping rather than try to sit it somewhere inside 50....or that could of been because Roo and Kosi were rested.
Either way, I liked seeing guys like Gram 'taking the game on' again.

Will take time to get it all to work effectively. I just hope the gameplan is as good as Ross's. Because that was great.

This is IMHO is what weve lacked so often.SainterK wrote:First game everyone seemed to kick the ball so it landed about 25 metres out from goal, it wasn't working well, did anyone else notice that?

We become stagnant, predictable the minute Roo/Kosi go fwd and its dumb. Players who are near the 50 and can kick that distance must start talking the initiative and shot. Seriously IF we start to do this and put pressure on the opposition that we arent just Riewoldt conscious we become really hard to play against.
Weve got to get better at the decision making - sure if ure mans free or has a great lead advantage 35 out hit him up......BUT if theres no movement and the option is to bomb to a congested pack ......take the shot...

Re: New Game Plan
Milney seemed to embrace the 'play on' game to good effect! ..surprise, surprise....with one hilarious exception that I recall.

Re: New Game Plan
According to Michael Gleeson in today's Age:
Scott Watters won't truly show his hand for some time but there were immediate signs of a new look under the new coach, such as the play on at every opportunity and a stronger focus to move the ball by foot rather than by hand. Players also seemed to look for the corridor more than under Ross Lyon.
