what a dumb way to start the season, with tonight's game in isolation, GWS will get smashed, and the purity of the season commencing weekend has been diminished. and on top of this we have to watch the umpires monkey about with video replay cr*p.

Yep it would be much better to not have any games. The funny thing is that people arent forced to watch the game.

Maybe but I'm not that interested in watching a blowout and it's not a good look either.

Of course it will be a blow out. I would think about 140 points but having 9 games wouldnt hide that result in Sydney because it will still be the only game they are interested in. Anyway I think a stand alone game on a week where there is normally nothing at leasts generates some interest. I will be watching a game I normally wouldnt.

If I had the choice I'd rather have preferred to have watched Haws vs Pies as the stand alone opener. I think most people would and there's nothing wrong with that.

I hope the Swans smash them. I like seeing these new teams get a mauling. It's their due as new teams, just as it was for us 100 years ago!
It's unfair the Swans get two byes this year. That's why IMO it should be a 24 Round season like last year with two
Byes and no stand alone game this week.
Maybe Rounds 1, 3 and 3 could be 6 games each with the next bye series mid season as we currently have this year with another 3 rounds of six games.
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.

They dont have access to the grounds and do honestly think a rest in the second week of round one will help. Seriously i do need to bash my grandma soon.

Ok Plugs what about the rest rounds after round 5 and them again 10 rounds later?
They do have enough grounds available. Was not a problem last year.
Maybe we just need the GF first week in October like we did in 2011.
Now go bash your granny.

So lets get this straight. They have access to grounds but had to play the GF in October. So which is it. They obviously dont have access to grounds otherwise the GF would have been in September last year. Can you please explain how a bye in round one will help the Swans at the end of the year especially as last year more sides lost after the bye.
What's the problem playing the GF in the first week of October? Doesn't really matter provided the cricket authourities can be made happy.
Players seem to like the byes......gives the bodies a chance to rest, sure, if you are good enough like Geelong you can rotate players with a lot of depth they have.

They were all new teams and we got smashed because we were the worst.

And all this time later we have only one flag...and we won it by the smallest margin...we have a history of being shite..Hope the Giants history is better
