And you can add Andrew Lovett to OUT list.borderbarry wrote:And you can add Gamble to both lists.

Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney seem to have a better injecion of youth.
Both of them chock full of first round draft picks.

The weight of some of these kids says that it will be some time before they become effective AFL footballers.
They simply do not have the bodies at this stage - and it will take time to build the bodies.
So don't get too carried away with our drafted players. The great majority will be project players learning their way in the VFL.
2012 will revolve around the fitness and form of our key players and the continuing improvement of the likes of Armitage, Steven and McEvoy who now have the bodies to compete and impact.
Shenton may impact up forward, but he will have to improve his consistency by some number of degrees because there is a big gap between his impact games and the rest.
His finals series for Norwood confirms this.

Think sometimes you need to look past the actual players and look at what was effectively "paid" for them in terms of draft picks, I think the loss of what were effectively three first round draft picks in Mcqualter, Lynch and Lovett for 90 odd games in total is not a very good return.
Turnover of Rookies not so much of an issue there's generally some reason they have been overlooked in the main draft (by every club including us). In any year with up to 8 rookies even if you only get 1 100+ game player I think your doing well. Means 7 wont be with the club in two years time.

I think I do get your meaning and I feel the same way.borderbarry wrote:Good point ACE. With the better draft coming up in 2012 we need to have some on the list to delist. if you get my meaning.
We give it a red-hot go next year but if we don't win the flag we have to engineer early draft picks.
This will mean trading players before their use-by date is up and I'm talking Goddard, Dal Santo, Fisher, Montagana ... No one will be interested in Riewoldt, Kossie, Milne.
Not easy to lose these players but we have to get a go at the early draft picks in what is predicted to be a good quality draft.

I mean these two clubs are starting from scratch will have a lot of youth due to this, augmented by a disproportiate number of early picks....so what is the point even comparing ourselves to them. It is completely irrelevant.

I am quite pleased that Pelchen is managing our list rather that yourself.
Drafting kids is always high risk.
If you have stars you do not give the away for drat picks...half of whom will not make it.
Even many first round draft picks turn out to not be goof enough and do not make it.
We mike trade away all you say...and gain say three Raph's instead....whereas very good established players are exactly that.

I'm talking about getting picks at the cream of the crop. The very good young kids.
We need to trade them when they are just slightly over the hill - and get the very best that can give us 10 years +. Raph was a poor decision based on emotion because he is Xaviers's brother. Move on from that.

Goddard might go to GWS but the would really be the only one where we will get 2 first round draft picks for. if let us say we traded out reiwoldt, lenny goddard and dal santo in their mid 20's there would be no soul or heart left. No player would want to commit to the Saints.

All our top players were early picks - Hayes, Riewoldt, Koschitzke, Goddard, Ball, X Clarke, Dal Santo.
Otherwise we get R.Clarke, McQualter, Armitage, Lynch.
The cream of the crop for the next 10 years are in the top 10.
