Former Saint Sam Loxton Passes away
Sad to Tell of the passing of Sam Loxton last night Aged 90
Born - 29 March 1921 Died - 02 December 2011
" Although he is remembered more for his efforts as a Test Cricketer,Loxton was also a fine full-forward who had a great goal sense. He moved fluently and was a long kick who once booted eight goals in a game.In 1944 headed the Saints goalkicking with 52 and ran second in the best and fairest.

He was a 1st and 2nd grade cricket umpire on the gold coast for quite a while, always up for a chat during the breaks in play and always stuck around the clubhouse after the days play wherever he umpired.mcadam05 wrote:Did he ever talk about his time at the Saints?St Loxton wrote:R.I.P Sammy. Absolute gentleman in every sense. Generosily shared his wisdom and colourful stories with anyone who showed interest.
R.I.P Old mate.
I did mention to him a couple of times i was a St Kilda fan and asked about his time as a saint, and he said footy was something he always loved but never took it as seriously as he did his cricket. Just loved competitive sport and the social aspect of being in a club.
How very sad. He was a true gentleman and a beautiful person. We had the pleasure of having him as our guest speaker at one of our earlier functions. Everyone fell in love with him and his lovely wife Jo. Wonderful people. He had a sad life though. He lost his darling wife in a tragic accident several years ago and the same day he lost his son from shark attach.
RIP Sammy you are a true legend and hold a place in our hearts.

Just two invicibles left!

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Big bag of goals
I remember reading an article in the old Herald back in the 80s about Loxton kicking a very big bag of goals against somebody - Geelong? South?
Does anyone recollect this?

st kilda, producing legends of cricket from time immemorial...
we should get an CA grant FFS.
That said, another legend of Australia passes away and will be remembered in the annals of history without a doubt.
