I know the feeling "Frankie B".............. it's going to take a bit of adjustment, but that's a further cross that we Sainters have to bear I s'pose.Frankie B wrote:I've just spent the last eight years hating Dean Laidley!
(Sigh) Does this mean I now have to like him?
Gee at times it's hard being a Sainter As long as Laidley doesn't bring WanCarey with him. That would really test my loyalty toward the Saints!

watched him play a couple of times.....
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

Apparently he is very impressive on the conditioning side of things, has some really good ideas and strategies around maximising strength/muscle development for AFL footy.ctqs wrote:What do you know about Burge?Legendary wrote:Burge as High Performance Manager ... a great get. Has been at the Hawks for a while and Hardwick tried to get him to the Tigers at the start of 2010. Very highly rated (I work with someone in that industry). Wonder if Pelchen played a role?
Laidley touted for a while ... will be good to have him in the box (match-day coaching is a strength of his) and helping Watters ...
My client's experience is that people from an athletics background are very good at preparing athletes generally, as they have a good idea about how to 'peak' at the right time and perform at an optimum level.
The fact that he was rated highly by Hardwick says something as well IMO.
Obviously was quite a successful athlete himself in an individual sporting environment, and has now spent time in team environments and been involved with a premiership at the Hawks.

Just bought a house in Melbourne, wife is from Victoria. All things seem to lead to him staying over here. Also pretty sure he mentioned at one the functions that he would stay in Vic.bergsone wrote:Gardi moved back to WA ? not sure seem to remember talk of him going backsaintbrat wrote:Danny has been a constant since Ross came in- and maybe even before
has worked his way into a line coach position. Good on himAdam Kingsley, Dean Laidley and Danny Sexton will work alongside Scott Watters as Line Coaches in St Kilda’s AFL Program for the forthcoming season. A fourth and final Line Coach is yet to be appointed.

I wonder if Gardi would hang around for part time with Big Ben and co?

Thanks for that. Here's hoping he can get our young blokes up to speed quickly in terms of their physical development, and keep our older blokes as fresh as possible.Legendary wrote:Apparently he is very impressive on the conditioning side of things, has some really good ideas and strategies around maximising strength/muscle development for AFL footy.ctqs wrote:What do you know about Burge?Legendary wrote:Burge as High Performance Manager ... a great get. We're looking like business off-field for next year, it's looking like a fresh but experienced coaching line-up, with one more coach to go. I'm actually likeing the lack of old Sainters amongst the coaching staff (albeit a lot of West Coast and Hawthorn, both from successful periods at each club), no room for sentimentality these days.

watched him play a couple of times.....
The best innings I saw Peter Burge play was Second Inninigs Aus v England 2nd Test of the 1965-66 MCC tour of Australia.
Burge and Dougie Walters put on a partnership of over 190 runs to save the match for Australia.
Burge absolutely plundered the attack, scored 120......... but of all people to get him out it was Boycott
I can still visualise it today. Boycott came on and Burge put him straight into the hands of Edrich (I think) at mid wicket. Not long after Boycott had Vievers stumped. But Burge and Walters (both got centuries) had saved the day. That I think was the final series that Peter Burge played Test cricket for Australia.

I'm with you Frankie B - couldn't stand the guy - so arrogant and always seemed angry. Maybe he just didn't like the limelight though....Frankie B wrote:I've just spent the last eight years hating Dean Laidley!
(Sigh) Does this mean I now have to like him?
Anyway, he's with us now - so can't be too bad?!

It's certainly looking to be a great team of Coaches. Laidley has a good reputation, but it will take a little time for me to take to him.
Gardi has a reputation as being very popular around the Club and clearly knows his job. We need a specialist Ruck Coach (even part-time). I would be happy to see him on board.
