Scott Watters' record as WAFL coach

Post: # 1165509Post Sainternist »

Could someone please provide his win-loss record and years coached as Subiaco coach.

Also, was it two premierships he coached them to?

I know it was 3 GFs, 2 successive premierships at Subiaco, in 3 seasons. Perhaps, some of our cluey Western friends can inform us of more detailed info!

Thanks, Bratty.

Even if he has only coach WAFL level, two premierships and 3 GF appearances in 4 seasons is nothing to be sneezed at there.

It's no wonder the Filth were eager to get him and hold onto him as an assistant.

I liked what he had done during the years away from Football even more Sainternist post 1996
not sure if it was the SEN or the 927 interview where he mentioned it
http://www.sen.com.au/audioplayer/Audio ... tters/3280

http://www.radiosportnat.com.au/audiopl ... 813075.mp3

but ran two companies - one of which dealt in leadership training..

Scott Watters as coach at Subiaco:

2007 16 Wins 4 Losses - 2nd on H&A ladder - Premiership
2008 19 Wins 1 Loss - 1st on H&A ladder - Premiership (Only loss was by 1 point!!)
2009 13 Wins 7 Losses - 2nd on H&A ladder - Runner Up

Also interesting to note, the average points "FOR" while at Subi were 124, 130 and 104.

other thing of note was in 2009 they were only beaten in the grand final by a south freo side full of ex afl and afl listed players.

To be fair though Scott inherited a bloody good side from Peter German in Subiaco .. Most of the building of that team was already done by the time Scotty got the job ... He will be a great coach for us but as they say any fool could have coached that subi side to the flag ...

I heard much the same.

Still, to win back-to-back flags is not an easy task, no matter how good the side is that you inherit.

So your saying, he's timing has been traditionally good?

Suits me if he's seen something at St Kilda that he can time well. 8-)

He was still a damn good coach and all his players will credit their massive run in 2008 to the changes he made .. But he didn't build the team as such .. He is a smart bloke though I used to like listening to his comments on Perth radio ...

It can be just as difficult to manage a successful team as it can to develop youth ... when developing youth and building a side, you are given a fair bit of time and latitude ... when taking over a successful group, there are high expectations and big ego's to manage ... Watters clearly did that very well

I'm not saying he can't build a list just that he hasn't yet ... First and formost Scotty is a great leader so I'm sure he can build a strong list

thats not exactly true.

sure german built a great side that failed in 2003 only to rebuild it, bring in youth and succeed in 2004 and again in 2006. but watters did exceptionally well to keep the momentum going to make 3 successive grand finals. his work with the younger players coming through was exceptional. his management of the older players was even better!!!

german still had an off year in 2005. one could say german saw the lack of professionalism and fitness in the wafl and exploited it.

To back up what some have said earlier in this post, there have been some comments allegedly made by former Subiaco players who claim that compared to Scott Watters that Peter German was by far the better coach.

As always, time will tell whether the club has made the right choice...

Don't quote me on it but I think he may have been doing corporate team building with Ken judge .. I'm 90% sure Scotty was at a Corp team building day I went to where Judge and Jeans gave motivational speach ... I was distracted by Yabby so I didn't pay much attention to Scotty
