Heard this rumour quite strongly on Sunday-Monday last week from a couple of well connected friends.

They seemed confident that this arrangement would be forthcoming.

The chatter died off towards the end of the week. Whether that was because MM isn't interested anymore, or whether it is because other candidates interviewed just as well as Watters did, I'm not sure ...

If MM becomes director of coaching, I guess Chris Pelchen could always cut the oranges.

Hi Caroline,

Yes I can confirm this.

Mick has agreed to mentor Watters in an unofficial capacity. Paul Roos has also agreed to terms as an assistant with Gary Ayres as head runner.

We are all excited and looking forward to some positive press from you.

That rumor was tweeted by Ricky Nixon a few hours ago.

Great result if it proves to be true

Do you think this links in with that rumour a week or so ago about Malthouse apparently being seen with Milney at a cafe?

I don't think S. Milne is in charge of hiring anyone at St.Kilda so what relevance would that have?

Maybe they were trying to mend past wounds due to the fact MM would be our Football Director?

Wouldn't that be something that would only come into consideration once all the actual negotiating & to & fro was sorted out?

I hardly think Malthouse would want or care for approval from S Milne...

You have a point. The only reason I brought it up was the coincidence factor, that is all.

Malthouse didnt want to stay at Collingwood and be "director of football" why would he want to come to St Kilda for the very same job he just walked away from?

Because we didn't dump him for an unproven tosser.

That job at Collingwood was always going to be seen as a demotion. With us it would not be so.

Not saying it's going to happen of course; just responding to the question.

I'd heard they were keen on getting MAlthouse in a senior capacity and hadn't given up on getting Scott Burns. Even though he's now said he doesn't think he's ready for a senior coaching gig he might reconsider if he knew that MM would be sitting beside him.

The role at Collingwood involved turning up at 9am, sitting in a nice office overlooking the Yarra, having lunch in the Westpac Centre cafe, returning to the nice office overlooking the Yarra, updating his Twitter, manicuring the moustache, watching the clock tick to 5pm & heading to the club sponsored Lexus.

If he happended to cross paths with anyone named Nathan Buckley, he was to fall to his knees, Wayne's World style.

It really got up Mick's nose that it was made clear to him that he wouldn't be welcome in the coaching box on game days whereas Rocket Eade is very welcome there.

It's a long shot but....

there is no news and only scuttlebutt.
the only people who know are the people on the selection panel. everyone interviewed is on even footing. there are no front runners.
scotty got a good run in the press last week and thats all anything is based on.
anyone who reckons they have inside word etc etc is full of sh*t.
