This guy is the biggest knob going around. No one cares what he thinks so why do they bother reading "his" top 50? Maybe if they polled all the journos and came up with a top 50 that would be better. But then again they have something called the MVP voted by the coaches which is far more credible.
Another opportunity awaits!

I like how Sheahan has pumped up his Top 50 list over the years to present it as something that is quite important and noteworthy. To think of the amount of hours he spends working this out and then the inevitable justifications for the controversial decisions, makes my eyes water.
It's just some bloke's opinion. I doubt whether anyone who plays or coaches gives a monkey's...
Let's have Some Random Football Fan's Top 50. The only thing it tells us is about Mike Sheahan.

Yep even if they dont go to games. They can just go by what they read. Thats right in papers. Who cares about the top 50. If you dont like it dont read it and if interested thats good.BigMart wrote:Couldnt be bothered reading it...why would anyone care what his opinion is..
Get an ex coach to do it....then it may carry some weight

You obviously would rate his opinion highly...... Similar type to you i reckon....
He could watch every game.....and watch 3 replays....still wouldnt waste my time with his rubbish
Who do you reckon could write the more accurate top 50
Roos
Matthews
Laidley
Parkin
Sheehan
I know which is the odd one out....the one without the actual knowledge

Not sure about all the bitterness towards mike on this site. A bit childish really. I quite like his opinions. It's a list from the point of view of one person that people are interested in - don't fret over it.
Personally, I think mike is one of the few good journos left. He gets his breaking stories and rumours right more than the others.
As for the Ball thing - he is right. Our coach effectively gave him up by not valuing him. I hate that we did that to him and I hate that he plays for collingwood. But hindsight now tells us that we made a mistake because his will to play well was ultimately stronger than his body.

Yes, he can break stories....thats his job...and he can write interviews, even cover games with commentary pieces
But expert analysis is not his go....hi football knowledge is not strong enough....his opinion is no better than the next bloke....
Deciding who is better....ball or montagna....he does not have enough knoledge to base it on.....so therefore..irrelevent

I used to get all in a huff and puff over his top 50, but he is a journo, employed to give his opinion and create debate - which is exactly what we are doing.
Of course he gets things wrong, I mean, Enright and Kelly so high, seriously? But we are talking about it so hello, job done... its just one persons opinion, if you don't like it, don't look at it or talk about it, simple.

We can quibble about his rankings or his expertise but for me the relevant thing for Saints fans is that few of us would argue that, for various reasons, we had as many players in the top echelon this year a we have had previously. At the end of 2010 there was little argument from us that Goddard and Hayes were top 5, Roo was at the start of 2010, and that Monty, Dal and Fisher were close to top 20.
It's clear we've not got those claims for our best in 2011.

What annoys the hell out of me is the fact that 2 years later journo's continue to mention 'St.Kilda giving him away' every time Ball's name is mentioned.jmac101 wrote:Not sure about all the bitterness towards mike on this site. Ball left us after being on great money and doing sfa for the previous 3 years and was offered a contract. We should've recieved compensation back for him but he left us.
They didn't mention Port Adelaide eveytime Nick Stevens did anything for Carlton.. In fact a remember them being praise for standing up for themselves.
and in regards to Mike's top 50, its always going to cause debate, thats the nature of it and everyone's opinions but Ball at No22!? eck, No122 maybe.. Ball hardly had an opponent after Swan, Thomas and Pendelbury.
