Well I think this Herald Sun article with quotes from MM's manager puts to rest all these rumours...
""Michael will be finishing up his duties at Collingwood. He has given the club his absolute best and leaves it in a much better place than when he found it.
"It is now my intention to speak to media outlets about his immediate future.
"We have always said that Michael won't be coaching anywhere else next year."
Quizzed about the prospect of Malthouse returning to coaching in 2013, Sidwell said: "We haven't thought beyond next year."
Five clubs inquired about Malthouse's availability this season.
Malthouse, 58, will travel to Europe this month for a four-week holiday before finalising TV, radio and newspaper deals.
The three-time premiership coach is expected to sign with Channel 7 and 3AW."

my worry is that like Ross he had a great game plan that saw him lift a team of a few stars and a smattering of GOPs to higher heights. Once a couple of seasons passed that game plan was worked out and he didn't have a fall back.plugger66 wrote:I want the best coach to coach us and that is by far and away MM. If I wanted a mate I would get Oatesy to do it. Lets see Watters or MM. Just maybe MM. Doesnt matter though as he wont do it so Watters gets the job.
Eade might even be a better option in that his extra couple of months free of a team let him analyse and re boot with an added game style. Just putting it out there, the Malthouse style may be gone and he is too old to come out with anything new? Not sure there is anything like a sure bet in footy but he is the most successful coach premierships wise available.
yes please...Mrs_Seaford_Saint wrote:Shall I set up a booth outside Linen House and document the comings and goings???

thing is, most GOOD coaches do.St. Luke wrote:I'm not so sure Malthouse is all with it. The bloke has a screw loose at times.

While I respect the guy's longevity, surely this year has proven the adage that class ON THE FIELD above all wins flags. For all the talk of presses and strategies and all the hooplah that everyone goes on about, the side that without doubt is top to toe balls out talent with a liberal dose of ruthless physicality has come up trumps more often than not.
By all means get a strong disciplined personality at the helm but surely the key is giving him a support crew who can make turn our average into above average and our good into excellent.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

For once, I agree with Caroline Wilson. he is mentally 'gone'.
In honour of those who went before, in the dark and desperate years.
It seems to me that No is the new Yes in the AFL.. James Hird said no to coaching Essendon, Bomber Thompson said no to Essendon also, Ross Lyon said he had a contract till the end of 2012, Tom Scully, Gary Ablett, Callan Ward, get my drift??thirty-seven!? wrote:Well I think this Herald Sun article with quotes from MM's manager puts to rest all these rumours...

I wouldn't believe a word of what is said in the media by coaches, players or managers at the moment unless it is confirmed by the club involved.
I have actually heard this Malthouse rumour from alot better sources than the media... I still will not totally believe it until St Kilda announces it.
There are some very weird situations currently going on that would suggest that this rumour shouldn't be too far off the mark..
Why has Rodney Eade talked up that the saints approached him and then take a job at collingwood? Why has betting been suspended at all of the betting agencies? Why did Malthouse quit on grand final day? Why did he look like a man that would show everyone he wasn't ready to finish coaching? All very interesting questions...
Until we get confirmation, unfortunately everything we hear about footy is all just rumours and innuendo... Sometimes it is spot on, sometimes it not...
