Is Ross Lyon a scab?
I find it interesting that the term "scab" has not come into play in describing RL in acquiring his new found position.
It's no secret Mark Harvey was cold bloodedly sacked.
In the everyday workplace, a person who walks into a job after their predeccessor was dismissed in such undignified circumstances is generally looked upon as a sort of scab, particularly since it was all conducted with their knowledge.
Anyway, maybe it's for the best we no longer have Ross the scab around

He's a money hungry liar who knows nothing about the loyalty he preached.
But not sure about the "scab".
Lyin can hardly be held responsible for what the Freo board did to Mark Harvey.

If "mercenary" is the word then Maxie Hudghton is the quintessential mercenary besides whose crimes those of Lyon pale into insignificance. ...Tempted by that extra bag of cash from Uncle Eddie, Maxie - proud owner of a successful construction business with no coaching aspirations - used inside info to teach the Filth how to nullify Riewoldt, spilt the beans to Malthouse on our game plan, and celebrated gleefully while his brothers-in-arms for over a decade suffer a lifetime of agony over the loss he was hired to engineer!goodie wrote:I'll probably stick with mercenary

Oi.
True.
All blame not at Max's feet though.
Some dumb people let that happen .
Then. topped it off by sending Luke .
Basically gave Our flag to the maggots
Don't , imo , crucify a heart and soul legend for management short sightedness.

Max looked awful in 09 however the decision to get rid of Ball was plainly awful considering we had Misson at the club who was regarding as the best in the business. Absolute c**k up.gazrat wrote:Oi.

Now both the Bossco and Ball have gone. That is really hard to take considering Luke's performances....
He took the money to rebuild his family and that is fine. It still doesn't take away from the fact he still talks as if he is a great coach when he quotes Matthews et al despite never actually winning anything.

i understand his playing days were over ,
( although i didn't agree with no max at the big show )
but , to not realise the importance of our intellectual property and then to not realise it's importance to 'others' was .... insert appropriate word here.

Morally, Max's case has nothing in common with Ball's.gazrat wrote:Oi.

Luke is a professional footballer who preferred for whatever reason to play for a wealthier, better resourced club.
Similarly, Ross is a professional coach who preferred for whatever reason to coach at a wealthier, better resourced club.
But Max, unlike Luke, was not advancing his chosen profession.
Max took his little part-time pay-packet from Eddie for the purpose of carrying out a personal vendetta. He didn't care about the long-term damage he knew this would inflict on his mates and former club.
The fact that Max was once a heart-and-soul player for this club serves only to heighten (not diminish) the immorality of what he did.
Yes, you can argue that Ross was naive and a fool not to realize that Max would act like the slimy little Judas he proved to be. But Max and no one else bears moral responsibility for what he did.

Max would have slowed down chapman .
As for lyon. Well as expected he has gone and hired an ex swans mate already for the dockers.
The guy is and was always living in 2005. He tried to turn the saints into the swans. He was living the 05 dream over and over. He is and will always remain true in his heart to 05 swans.

crippa2sipa wrote:Actually, Con, this thread concerns the question whether Ross is a scab / mercenary. If Ross is a mercenary, then Max is a far more egregious and contemptible one.
Big ups for your vocab and spelling. Well done. But max got done in the rear end by lyon. And at the time lyon was the club. So max probably felt like a married guy being cheated on by his wife and best mate.
Is lyon a scab? That is a hard one. He was never really a saint. He was and always remains true to the swans of 05. His mind is frozen in time. He would consider himself merely a messager of the swans gospel. An evangelist spreading the word to saints and docker heathen. The uncleansed. So I guess he is not a scab. Just a self proclaimed missionary man.

I think Lyon is an opportunist. I believe the board wanted a change in direction and weren't pushing as hard as they could have. Certainly the board "appeared" shocked at his departure, but not furious about it.
Max, Ball and Harrvs are all champions who played with their hearts on their sleeves. I won't soon forget what they brought to the club. Ball however is now a Magpie.
My personal thought is that without Lyon we may be able to invigorate the group. Someone other than Dawson in defense. And a chance for some of our newer guys to get regular gigs in the seniors.
I feel more excited about 2012 than how I felt at the beginning of 2011.

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
